Default Securing a file on the blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

I have the password lock on my blackberry, but on the outside chance its lost and hacked into, all I have are email and contacts which are not of much use to anyone.

But suppose I want to keep some account numbers, in a protected file, such as a password protected XLS or PDF or MDB or DOC file. Are any of these really safe, or can they all be hacked into?

I know for example Access MDB files can be easily hacked into with freeware/shareware programs.

I just did a search on blackberry forensics. I have been told before," where there is a will, there is a way". I have no idea if it is possible to get past the bb password lock or not, but why not store the account info in the vault or purchase an encrytion program to keep your data safe. You have awaken a thought that I had when I first started to put account numbers into my bb, I don't know if what I posted helps but I normaly do overkill so I feel better with the encrytion progam and locking the bb.

edit/ I don't know if they do "file" encrytion though.

Yes - everything helps! Thanks.

1) Re "account info in the vault " , forgive my ignorance, but what does this mean? !!

2 Re encryption programs, that's likely the right approach, but my corporate BB is locked down to prevent me from loading any software, so I am just stuck with native BB - which is why I thought I'd just email myself a file.
I supose I could mail myself a protected file and an email attachement that looks like a spam, so even at thief would not bother with it!! Actually I kinda like that idea!!

Sorry, I was thinking about the macs file vault. What I meant was bb Password Keeper. I use it to store account info & passwords in there and its encryted, (i think),and password protected yet it doesnt do files.

Ahhh Password Keeper - didnt even know about that one. Actualy thats an interesting option. And I like that it's two password levels deep. I could use it for account numbers.

I guess the only downside is that I would need to re-enter all my info from scratch ( ie there is no way to import in a file)
