so i'm a brand new blackberry user as of last week, 8800 to be precise. my brother suggested i use beejive's jivetalk for an im client. however, every time i try to do the direct-to-bb download on their site, it starts, then asks if i want to accept the certificate, and then fails with a cod message. after that, my edge goes down and won't go back up unless i reset it on the network by taking the battery out, etc.

anyone else have this problem? happened last night and again tonight.

in addition, if anyone knows of a good im client that they use other than jivetalk (needs at least AIM and MSN), i'd appreciate suggestions.

email they will respond quicky. they are very helpful

You won't find a better IM client for the BB than JiveTalk. It's the best one out there by far. Try downloading to your 'puter and syncing with desktop manager if the OTA install is failing.

regarding the d/l-to-sync, i'd rather figure out why the direct-to-bb download is failing and also crashing my edge network connection.

other than this problem, i'm loving my bb. i'll sit on it instead of my laptop sitting in front of me, which is ridiculous haha.

I installed and bought Jive Talk last night myself. But I did not try an OTA install (I prefer to have apps archived in case I have to reinstall stuff in a hurry) and did the DM install. Went smoothly and works flawlessly.

I have used both webmessenger and IM+ in the past. More expensive but reliable too. JT should work though. Try support.

JiveTalk absolutely rules. And I'm an IM whore too -- HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY use. I mean HEAVY. Works great. I like how messages will still go/come if you lose reception. They're just sitting there waiting 'til reception is gained again. I just wish it was a bit more active at aquiring the connection after its dropped. Takes a while but nothing to complain about.

Noticed you go by "bmwmpower". I have a 2003 Carbon Black BMW M3 which is still freakin' awesome after almost 4 years of ownership. I have a nuvi 660 GPS mounted on the dash that my BB 8800 pairs with quite nicely. The address book shows up nicely on the unit where it didn't with my old Treo 650. Sorry for the off topic post but had to say hello to a fellow M lover.

just an fyi for any at&t customers...if you go to your medianet browser and click on mail and messanging, there is a pretty solid IM client for free there. Only able to get it through the medianet homepage for right now, but it is a very solid client for nothing. Chats utilize sms i believe...

all right so i forgot to check the board yesterday. i need to up my forum whoring haha.

i followed the advice and contacted beejive support by email. you weren't lying, cableguy, they're quick.

however, the end-all, be-all answer they gave me after several emails, was "we have thousands of users and you're the only one with this problem." not exactly a solution.

so i figure i'll try the sync install. i'm no sync wizard and have yet to install any software that way. any tips or advice before i do that?
