I ran into an issue this morning and wanted to know if anyone out there had a solution. I placed a call to an accounting firm that I do business with. I called prior to their normal business hours and the automated attendant answered. I didn't know the extension of the person that I was trying to reach, so I selected the option to use the dial-by-name directory. This is where the problem arose - the keys aren't marked like on a normal landline phone or plain cellphone, with their alphanumeric dialpad. I was able to input the proper key sequence for the individual that I was looking for, but it took me longer than I would have liked.

When I had a Q, I remember someone hacking the registry to insert a picture of the dialpad with the number/letter associations. Being fairly new to the BB, I am not sure if this would be possible or not. It'd be nice to insert something like the following image somewhere on the dialing screen to assist me (and I'm guessing a lot of others).



Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Easy (much less complicated than a Q hack):

Hold down the Alt key while typing the actual letters you want. The BB will translate to numbers you want. Try it... in your phone dialer, put in

1800 (alt)CINGULAR, and press dial.

OMG - what genius. One question - will this work during a call, like the situation that I gave above?

That only works if you enter the letters before the call starts. I think the issues the OP is having is when having to type a name during the call (or something similiar). I have had this problem myself and havn't come up with any kind of solution short of looking at my desk phone to see the letter mappings.

Does it not? I thought I had used it while on a call, to dial a last name.

It works properly when I'm on a call...
