It's fairly easy to change the picture on the background of the 8800 by pressing the menu key while viewing a photo.

Here is my question:

When selecting a photo to use as my background, I go back to my home screen and only the middle of the screen is changed. The top and bottom section stays the same. Is there any way to change the entire home screen to a different picture?

I assume you're using the Cingular theme. There doesn't seem to be any way to remove the top and bottom bands with this theme. Try a different theme if you want a full screen background.

Good to know. I was going under the assumption that it could be something like the theme.

Can I change the theme without affecting any of the applications or functions of the phone?

yes you can but be prapared that your icons will be in new places and some of them might be hidden so you will need to go thru all phone to organize stuf in the way you like

Ok, Thanks for the help. This is important because my wife and I both have 8800's and we keep getting them confused. I don't mean to beat this thing like a dead horse but I have a couple more questions:

1. What theme would be recommended for someone with a new 8800 from Cingular to accomplish what I'm trying to?

2. I assume you can change the icons to different images?

3. If, assuming worst case scenario, something goes wrong, can I revert back to were I'm at now without a completely huge hastle? I don't mind a bunch of computer work, but I don't want to land back in Cingular looking like an idiot.

I like the BB Zen theme. It makes the icons smaller, so I can put more of them on the desktop. I use my own background picture and it covers the screen. Format it a maximum of 360 pixels wide and 240 pixels tall before copying it to your BB. I format all my pictures that size prior to copying them over, and for a screen background, I crop so that it is exactly 360 by 240 to cover the whole thing.

I'm pretty sure you can't change the icons unless you make your own theme, which is beyond my current ability or inclination.

The cost of reverting back is the same as changing to a theme, not much. Different icons come hidden (often none) when you select a theme, so the first thing I do is hide the icons I don't use. Then I move them around to make them a bit easier to find, e.g. the corners can be reached quickly. it isn't possible to lose any of the icons.
