Default BB Maps on 8830

Please Login to Remove!

By chance is the BB maps pre-installed on the 8830 crippled versus the one you download from RIM? I tried to do the "get directions" from addresses not from my address book and it wouldn't do it, it would give me the seraching status bar and then stop and nothing, but if I do get directions starting and ending on addresses from my address book it searches and yields directions. Is BB maps not able to map non-address book entries? I was able to do so on my 8703e with the BB maps version that I downloaded from RIM.

The version you download from RIM won't work at all on the 8830. The icon wont' show up. If you don't have City, State, and USA in the address book it seems like BBMaps has problems getting directions from the address book.

So basically, I am stuck with a half functioning BB maps? Man, the 8703e is sounding better everyday, the BB maps I had install on it worked fine, except it didn't render as fast as the version on the 8830.

Anyone notice on the wirefly.com site that in their description of the 8830 from VZW that it has "Built-in True GPS Locator And Applications BlackBerry Maps Built-in and VZ Navigator Support"

I wonder if they're just jumping the gun, or has VZW finally enabled the GPS.

They are planning to enable GPS, but the closest you can get from them as far as a date is sometime within the next 6 months.

That would suck if that is the case being that BB maps renders no data outside the us.
