Hi experts... I did search and couldn't find a thing. I know this has been discussed but I can't find it, so please forgve a newbie if this has been discussed. I really couldnt find it.

I just got my 7100T last night, with the $19.99 unlimited data plan. I do want unlimited access to Email, web etc. But I also intend to use Yahoo Messenger a lot. Oooops! Those come through as SMS. Nice one TMo.

I know I read here somewhere that if you switch from GPRS to something else they don't come out of your SMS bucket? And that maybe it's the included OZ chat client that does this, but other chat clients don't do it that way? I'm sorry, I can't find those posts.

Could someone please summarize the state of chat/IM on the 7100t? What are the decent 3rd-party chat clients for Yahoo? Do those chat clients use SMS? Or should I simply change a configuration setting from GPRS to something else?

BTW, I called TMo on this -- they didnt have a CLUE what I was talking about. The only answer I got from them was that Yahoo Messenger PMs come out of your SMS bucket. Period.

Boy have I got a lot to learn about this device. I have 20 years software experience but man this thing is loaded and relatively undocumented. Service books, reloading, 3rd party apps, 1st level message, yadda yadda yadda.... wow. But all that could be moot if I experience the dreaded reset in the next 13 days. Got my fingers crossed.

In the meantime, how do I do Yahoo chat without eating from the SMS bucket?

Check out one of the threads on Verichat or IM+... T-Mobile has disabled SMS over GPRS.
