Default G-Mail and BB 8830

Please Login to Remove!

I have a couple emails setup on my Blackberry and they are all stup via BIS.

I have my gmail setup on my computer with OUTLOOK and on my blackberry via POP on BIS.

Today I was thinking it was strange that I wasnt getting any emails on my gmail account so I loged in on my computer with OUTLOOK and It started downloading new emails that I never recieved on my BB.

Then about 10 seconds later my BB started getting All the messages and right now its at 195 messages.

does anyone know why the emails wouldnt get sent to the BB untile I check for new ones in outlook?

I am not useing Desktop redirector, They were pushed OTA.

I've had my 8830 for two weeks, and it has done something similar 5 times already. I use G-mail, which I have integrated with my BB, and which i also download to Microsoft Entourage. It doesn't seem to be linked to whether or not I check my messages via Entourage. Just randomly, I will start getting every message that passed through G-mail since the last time it happened. today it was 200 messages!

I looked at BB's technical support page, and there is an article (Doc ID: KB11523) that states that the BB device downloads all messages with unique Message ID's. It goes on to say "If message IDs are being changed by the messaging server, duplicate email messages will be received."

The remedies provided are:
"1. Ensure that the message IDs of email messages in the integrated account do not change, or that email messages are not being added back to the inbox of the integrated account."
"2. Delete email messages from the BlackBerry device using the On Mailbox & Handheld setting."

Remedy 1 makes sense, but I'm not an IT administrator, and I don't know that you can control the inner workings of G-mail anyway. Remedy 2 makes some sense, unless (like me) you want to keep your messages in your G-mail and/or your Outlook/Entourage, but want them off your device.

I can't contact BlackBerry directly since I don't have a corporate account. Any corporate IT Admins or IT savvy folks out there who could shed some more light on this issue?

Thanks!

Not sure if you guys have done this or not. I use gmail for my job. To get the emails instantly you need to forward your gmail to your vzw.blackberry.com email account. I know, its another email account that you don't want but trust me this is worth it. Sign up for the account and then forward your gmail to that account. Set up the vzw.blackberry.com account on your phone and you will begin seeing your gmail come to this account. It is so fast, I usually get it a few seconds BEFORE my laptop does. Also, you can change your options so when you send email from your vzw.blackberry.com account it appears as your gmail address.

Hope this helps.

You shouldn't have to do this. I have gmail and it's instant. I just set it up as my main email on my phone (BIS) and did not have to forward any of the mail to another account. *unless it does that automatically...*

Mine works too. (though I have had a VERY odd data service issue where I'll stop receiving emails altogether until I reset my antenna)

Sorry guys if I wasn't specific. You're right.....if you download the gmail program that is available it is pushed. I don't like the program and the way it views on my phone. The only other way you can set up your gmail account to come to your phone is through BIS and setting up a POP account. This is not truly pushed instead it is a POP account that is polled every 10-15 minutes for new mail.

I believe that with certain mail carriers like Gmail, that it is not polled. I've been using Gmail through BIS for a long time and I always get my messages nearly instantly.

I have Gmail set up with POP access, for Outlook on my laptop, and I set up my Gmail account using the Email Setup on my BB.

I get the emails, well before my laptop, which checks every 2 minutes, does. That's not the issue.

The issue is that, every few days, everything that's been sent to my Gmail account during those few days is redownloaded to my BB. Nothing changes in my web-based Gmail, nor on my Outlook. It just happens, randomly, at different times during the day. Usually between 100 and 200 messages are redownloaded.

Default 2.5mm Phone Adapter?

Shure debuts MPA-3c Music Phone Adapter

Alittle pricey for a 2.5mm phone adapter($40), but I am sure it is solid like all the other Shure products...... This proablly works with the 8830... I hope. Cheapo verizon doesnt include any headset with the 8830 unlike the 8800.

I have been using gmail but not within my outlook. I keep it separate and use the gmail from the gmail home page. Downloaded the google mobile setup with separate icons for search, google news, google maps and gmail onto my 8830 and am not having any issues as yet.

Ok frustrated gmail + BIS 2.3 users, I am one of the same and finally got some explaining from the RIM pros themsevels.
I was on the phone with them last night for two hours.

1. BIS 2.3 servers had a "service pack 1" installed the weekend of June 23.
(I am on verizon, but suspect RIM rolled this out for all USA?)
this could have helped / hurt the situation, but I remain skeptical.

2. the REAL crux of my issues (only getting some gmail emails via BIS2.3 and the reconcilliantion being TOTALLY random and deleting the wrong emails off BB8830) was related to this RIM knowledgebase article:
kb04792

you can search for this kb at the RIM support site
na.blackberry.com/eng/support/

see the Cause 3:
summary: when the gmail pop3 server mesg list has 400+ messages in it, gmail+BIS 2.3 starts getting confused as to which mesg is which.
RIM tells me this is because gmails pop3 server does "non standard" things over the 400 amount.

fix: log into gmail, go to Settings and turn off pop, save changes. then turn it right back on (for new mails only).
this "resets" the pop 400+ index number, down to 0 - which starts increasing again with new incoming mails.

I have done this with success so far, receiving all new emails since. Obviously we the users need to keep pressuring RIM support (via your phone carrier) and gmail gurus to FIX this 400+ pop3 index list problem!

Being a sysadmin, I've not seen another pop3 client have this issue with gmail 400+ POP indexes, but apparently RIMs BIS does. :(

I occasionally have the same problem. Most of the time my gmail downloads instantly but every now and then things will be hung and not download immediately.

I skirt this issue by going into GMail every so often and archiving messages to get them out of the inbox.

Most of the time when my Gmail gets "hung", I find that it's been after I have been out of service for a while. You would think that it would get it as soon as I get back in service, but it can sometimes take a long time after I get back in range. This only happens occasionally, otherwise Gmail works great for me.

I have Gmail and I get some email and not others. Some work and some dont. Any word on this. Try doing the turn off and on POP3 support will fix it?

Thanks.

Yes, do exactly that. POP off. then POP on.

the other important thing to remember in the RIM kb04792 article is
Cause 5

do NOT have another pop3 mail application (on your desktop, home machine, etc) running either! because those applications accessing the same gmail mailbox resets the POP3 "time stamp" (for detecting new messages) and the next BIS check to the gmail box will get confused.

Obviously this is a huge problem with gmail POP3 servers, and keeps any sane "mailbox syncronization" impossible on gmail servers- if you have a mail client on your machine at home and work, and ALSO want to use the same gmail inbox on the Blackberry.

I am off to find a legit hosting company that does real IMAP access, and forgot about this gmail/pop3 stupidity.

(or, try yahoo pop3.)

YMMV

IMAP is unnecessary. Have you tried Gmail's "recent" mode? It's made to handle this per Gmail's instructions at:

How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?

Quote:
If you sign in to Gmail using your Blackberry, you're signed in to recent mode automatically. For all other POP clients, replace 'username@gmail.com' in your POP client settings with 'recent:username@gmail.com'.
I do this on Microsoft Entourage on my Mac and Mozilla Thunderbird on my laptop PC, and I can happily check email from either programs, the Gmail web site, or my BlackBerry and it all works fine with everything seeing all emails without issue.
