Default New email sound notification

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I've tried to find this question on this BB forum and FAQ but no luck. I have an 8700g with Tmo and I have what I believe is the correct setting in the Profiles so that when a new email (Gmail) comes in, I get an audible notification, and not just the red blinker and yellow envelope.

I have set under Normal (active) profile>Messages>Out of Holster and In Holster to have Tune "Alarm_Electornic" (for example) and volume LOW, number of beeps 2, etc. I also set Google Talk Alert, Google Talk New Message the same way just in case. To be even more thorough, I set MMS and SMS to also have audible notifications. I send myself and email from my laptop to my Gmail account and within seconds the red light starts to blink...but no sound. I also shut off and on the unit. What am I doing wrong? I checked the boards and FAQ and the official BB Technical Support page and KB...even lowered myself to using the little booklet that comes with the unit...no luck. Can you guys help me figure this out? Thanks, I appreciate your patience.

When looking at the profile, where is says Out of Holster or In Holster, on that particular line does it say "Tone" or does it say "None"?

Dude...what would I do without you. Can't believe it was so simple! I HATE when that happens. As you can tell, I'm fairly new to BB's and I'm still getting adjusted. Thanks a lot for your response. Hope I can repay sometime ;)

On another note, do you know what makes an email a "Level 1"? I thought sending from Outlook and marking it as high priority with the red flag would do it...but not quite. I DO see the red flag on my BB, but it doesn't play the tone associated with Level 1 messages. And YES, it's now on TONE instead of NONE.

Glad I could help.

The only time I have gotten level 1 messages are when they are BlackBerry to BlackBerry messages, using the PIN number of the BlackBerry. Other than that I don't know what they are used for.

manpreet... at Messages > Options > Make PIN Messages Level 1 = Yes or No. That will give your PIN messages a Level 1 Notification.

OR

At your BIS site, where you setup your email, you can add a FILTER for a user (like your boss or wife?) which when you checkmark FORWARD MESSAGES TO DEVICE and checkmark LEVEL 1 Notificantion, you will get that user's messages sent to you as Level 1, and thus the special notification.

Thanks guys, you've all been very helpful. I'm already liking the BB way of life. Now if I could only shrink my thumbs a little

Take care.
