Yesterday (6/10) I was eligible for a VZW New Every Two device upgrade and selected the Blackberry 8830 after reading the various forums and decided to give it a whirl.
The only major problem that I had was importing 3rd party apps from my old Blackberry 7250 to the 8830. It turns out that I had downloaded the wrong BBDM from vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry. I had the updated BBDM for the 7250, not the 8830. So tonight I will try again and import the 3rd party apps over to the 8830. This is particularly important as I've been using JabPLite for managing my checkbook while on the go.
I'm also a bit disappointed with the Internet Browser. I can't login to
Netflix Online Movie Rentals - Rent DVDs, Classic Films to DVD New Releases - Free Trial but that was alleviated when I found out that there was a WAP enabled site at mobile.netflix.com. Though you can't reorder your Netflix queue with it.
I really like the display, it's a far cry from the 7250! Vivid colours and sharp text along with the automatic backlight adjustment.
I've yet to try the media player but from what I've seen it looks very impressive. The video player is much brighter than my iPod video display.
I've no plans to use it as a tethered modem since VZW has a very draconian terms of service "agreement" whereby I can't use YouTube or other streaming audio and video site.
Next month I plan to add the microSD card, I'm currently waiting for the 4 gig microSDs to come out.
