Sorry, not a RIM geek but wanna know what is the latest version of the desktop software that's out there and what I'm running. BlackBerry.com says

" Software For BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2"

But the currently installed product about menu says...

"BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Version 4.2.1.8 [Jan 16 2007]"

So, thanks RIM for abandoning a consistent naming structure that would be any help to us end users, so WHICH ONE IS IT? Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2?

The dates obviously don't help really either.

Man, finding the most simple of information from RIM is IMPOSSIBLE!!

Maybe with stuff like this that's making a market for RIM's Premiere service...

Just would love to know if it's an update to what I have before I download a 300MB file.

BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.2.2.14

Yes it is an upgrade to what you have now. Service pack 2 is version 4.2.2.xx (mine is 4.2.2.14)

Strange...it says I have to PAY $49.99 to get video onto my BB 8800 using the Roxio Media Manager for BlackBerry application.

(of course I can do copy the data on my own)

Video is not currently an option with the program, just lists import photos, import audio. Wow!
