Default At my wits end...Roxio Media Manager Install

Please Login to Remove!

I have taken possesion of a new 8830 and for the life of me cannot get the Desktop Manager to load Media Manager component properly. I have downloaded the latest version from the BlackBerry site and loaded it, but no luck. I then removed it completely and did a fresh install, but no luck there either. Most things work as required but I have tried to move video over and it shows "The media is of an unsupported format" and I thought I read that to make the final move to get it on the BlackBerry it has to be transfered by the Media Manager. Does anyone have any insight or a standalone copy of the Media Manager?

Thanks,

Have you installed the Roxio software that came on one of the disks with the 8830?

Do you have your Media Card set as Mass Storage?

Options > Advanced > Media Card >
Support ON
Mass Storage Mode ON
Auto Enable when connected ON

I am awaiting the 'Welcome Package' with the software on it thus I was hoping the Desktop Manager off their site would have it.

Yeah, i have set it to be ON for Mass Storage Mode.

Thanks,

A4x4, if you download Desktop Manager Version 4.2 Service Pack 2 off the site, you will be getting the most recent version, with Media Manager, the Roxio software, etc.

That's the one that I have taken off, but still no go. It installs the Desktop Manager and then says it is installing the Media Manager, but it skips past it and no icons show up.

Thanks,

The Media Manager is IN Desktop Manager. You open DM and click on Media Manager within it.

I've heard of people that have other Roxio software already installed having problems with this version. Do you have some other Roxio software, maybe that came with your PC? You might try uninstalling it first.

Thanks,
When I installed the DM service pack 2 version it hung up on the installation of the Roxio Media Manager for about half an hour. I just left it set there and had lunch when I came back it finally finished installing and worked. I do have Easy CD/DVD Creator installed on my puter so I think other Roxio products do interfer with the MM installation but being patient worked for me. BTW you won't find a media manager icon other than inside the desktop manager window.

It looks like it is strictly on my machine and a previous install of something. I have done some major house cleaning (removed winamp, itunes, java files, etc.) but still have not hit the one that is causing problems. Will keep trying and post the results.

Thanks,

That does not work for the videos. I can drag them on there, but then I get the message that the format is not supported. I can do that for the music and pictures but videos seem to want to the BB tool. I even tried the BlackBerry Video software, but the same results.

Thanks,

A4x4--you never answered the question or followed-up... You do know that Media Manager is an icon within Desktop Manager.

Do you have DM loaded.
Can you open it?
Do you see the icon for Media Manager?

If not, what do you see there?

Has anyone asked you which Windows version you are using with your DTM 4.2? I don't remember anyone asking that before. Have you checked to see if you have any/all known updates installed on your pc before installing DTM 4.2? Just checking.

Sorry, forgot to answer you.

Yeah, I am looking for it in DM, but it is just not there. As noted, when I loaded it at home it opens up as required and no problems.

I only have the usual DM icons, but no Media Manager. It looks like previously installed software has corrupted the load of it on my laptop.

I have Windows XP with SP2. I know others have noted that Vista can be a real pain with trying to get it to load.

Thanks,

Angry Same problem! Roxio Media Manager won't install on BB Desktop manager!!

A4x4,

I want you to know that we are experiencing the EXACT same problem with 3 different PC's running WinXP with all latest updates/SPacks. We install the latest Desktop Manager software from RIM (downloaded via website), and the media manager WILL NOT INSTALL NO MATTER WHAT YOU SELECT IN INSTALLATION OPTIONS.

You can uninstall and reinstall all day, it won't install!! I feel we have a blackberry bug here but they have been UNRESPONSIVE on this problem.

HELLO? BLACKBERRY T-SUPPORT?? Help!!!!

Also- If it's not a bug, I have a theory as to why it won't install the media manager. RIM probably made a deal with Roxio to give them roxio mobile media manager for blackberry FREE to blackberry users, BUT they won't let RIM distribute their media manager via free download on the website, maybe it can only be installed from the CD-ROM that ships with the blackberry?? This would be a huge dis-service to the user community, as I always pitch out those CD-ROMs since the software is always out of date!! Just a theory.

Ryan

I had similiar problems installing DM with Roxio Media Manager. I was able to install the previous version, that did not have Roxio Media manager. Once it was installed, I downloaded and installed the latest version with Media Manager it it installed this time. Not sure what the glitch was but that worked for me.
