Default Upgrading 7100t OS

Please Login to Remove!

I got my 7100t from my work last week and the OS on the device is version 4.0.0.215.

I would like to upgrade to at least version 4.1.

Will upgrading the OS lose the settings on the device (don't want to get into trouble from the IT department at work!).

Sorry if this has been asked before!

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

If it is a corporate BlackBerry, you would be wise to check with your IT people first.

Caution: While many had no problem going to OS 4.1.x on the 7100t, it made mine totally screwy. It took hours to back-rev it. Make sure you do a backup first.

4.1 is quite stable now. If your desktop Manager is properly setup and you can get an online connection to your corporate email then the enterprise activation will take place automatically after the OS installation. If it doesn't take place then you'll need to contact your IT department for an enterprise activation password. It's a simple process for your IT department.

Thanks for all your replies.

My IT department installed and setup Desktop Manager 3.6.2.9 on my laptop yesterday.

My main reason for wanting to upgrade is for Bluetooth communication between my laptop. Does this work in OS v4.1?

For whatever reason your IT department is handing out outdated BB's and installing outdated Desktop managers. They may have a good reason for this. It would probably be best to contact them for more information on their reasons.

The latest Desktop Manager is 4.2 SP2 available at Blackberry.com. I seem to remember bluetooth sync working with my old 7100t on 4.1 OS. It also can be blocked by IT policy so your results may vary. For what it's worth, bluetooth sync is much slower than just plugging in the usb cable.

I've been told it's because we are changing from T-Mobile to Vodafone in the next few months. They had 7100t's in stock so they are using them up instead of ording brand new 8100 Pearl's.

If you're certain they don't care, then upgrade your DM to the latest. Just make sure you set it up properly.
