Just got, and set up a BlackBerry 8800 as my second phone. And...although it seems stupid...I am stumped on one thing.

The red LED light on the top-front of the phone blinks all the time. On my Curve, I have the "coverage LED blink" set to "off"...so it only blinks when I have an unread email or message. I have set the same thing to "off" in my screen/keyboard portion of my settings list...but it still blinks.

Any help on this? It's driving me bananas!!

By any chance did you get a new message? The new message LED notification functions differently between the 4.2.1 OS (8800) and the 4.2.2 OS in the (8300).

In the 8800 the new message LED will not go away until you read a message.

OK...the light had been blinking on an off consistantly although I had no unread messages or emails, and no missed calls. Then a few minutes ago, I was using the browser to check a website...the phone froze on me, so I did a battery-pull reset. When the phone finally rebooted itself...mysteriously, the LED had quit blinking. And, it hasn't blinked since...

Weird.

I just turned off the wireless
then it stopped blinking

I guess it's the OS version of the 8800 vs. that of the 8300 that makes the difference. I have found that until I actually open a waiting new message, the LED will blink on my 8800. On the 8300, it will stop after I click onto my inbox and only look at the list of new mail. Odd..

It was driving me nuts until I figured out that the two devices just reacted differently. Now, it's no problem at all...

Is there any way to disable the light even if a new message comes in? I turned "Display new message indicator" to NO, in Mail->Options->General Settings.

It no longer puts a star on the mail app when a new message comes in, but the light still goes off. Really anoying that light.

If you set Repeat Notification to NONE in your Profiles, you won't get the LED flashing. Do that for EACH message type in your active profile, as well as in and out of holster settings.

The Messages > Options > General Options > Display New Message Indicator setting refers to the "star" that appears on the folder when new mail arrives.

You would do well to read some instructions on your BB. Both of the links in my signature below have great tips and help.
