Default Help with a 7280...

Please Login to Remove!

I recently purchased a brand new, sealed 7280 off of eBay that stated it could be used with AT&T and Cingular. I am on Cingular, and assumed that since they recently merged, it would work for me. Reading up on the forums has made me begin to question whether or not this is the case... That's not even my main question, but I thought it might be an important one to ask. ;) I wasn't planning on activating it for a while, so I don't want to get comfortable with my great new toy and then find out it's useless.

On to why I came here in the first place. I know that a lot of people use their Blackberry with their Mac, so I didn't even think about the compatibility with the included software, but when I put the CD into my Powerbook I realised it was just for Windows. What do I need to do? Is this what PocketMac is for, or is that a separate application altogether?

I tried searching around for my answer before asking, but due to a bad sinus infection my attention span has been reduced to nothing and I just need to find some straightforward answers. Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

Can't help you with the Cingular/ATT question, but as for the Macintosh question -- check out this thread:

Thank you very much!

I'm getting really worried about the fact that it's an AT&T... but at least I can use it like a PDA for now. Thanks!

Now that I've been doing more (coherent) research, I have realised that my eBay seller basically screwed me over. In my initial quest, I found that every auction listed their phone as being both AT&T and Cingular compatible. This led me to believe that due to the merger, I would have no problem using an AT&T 7280 on my exisiting Cingular account. Of course, the one I ended up buying from only listed AT&T (a stupid oversight on my part, although at the time I didn't think a thing of it) so I can't go back and request a refund.

So it looks like my only option is to unlock it. Am I correct? I refuse to pay some company $100 to do so when that's all I paid for my brand new BB in the first place. In everyone's experience, will I have any luck getting Cingular to do it for me? I've read many posts about their refusal to help, but I have to think that there's something I can do to get my way. I plan on playing dumb and going in to get a SIM card and sign up for service for it, and maybe hope that they help me out.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... I'm stressing out that this fairly monetarily challenged college student has just wasted good textbook money on a glorified PDA/paperweight.

Thanks!
