How I increased ringer volume on the 8830
 

At first, I just increased the profile setting to "Loud".
This did not make my ringer much louder at all (BTW, I'm using a factory installed ringer).

Later on, I noticed that there is an "advanced..." setting on the bottom of the Profiles menu. I chose this setting then hit the key that brings up menus (the one to the left of the trackball with the 7 dots on it).

I chose "New Profile", then "Phone", then changed the Out of Holster "Volume" from the default "medium" to "high".

Afterwards, I named the profile (has to be done in order to save) and selected it from the Profiles menu resulting in a louder ringtone.

I'm a blackberry Newb so I'm not sure if this is general knowledge or not, but it worked well for me and if nothing else I hope this helps others that are new to this type of phone.

Thanks, Lon. You can adjust the volume of any ringtone by editing the current (default) profiles already there.

The ringer volume was louder when I made a new Profile. When I edit a Profile already there it didn't make any difference.

Exact same thing that happened to me, now my ringer works AWESOME and I love me 8830

That's rather odd, but thanks for posting a simple solution. A guy at work was complaining about that.

For some reason the default volume for the Loud profile is set to medium. You can just edit that profile and bump it up to High instead of creating a new profile. Same difference.

If you make a new profile it's still louder then just setting a factory profile to high.

You are absolutely correct :shock: I just confirmed this on my phone. A new profile is indeed louder than a factory profile with the same exact settings. Sorry I doubted you.

I probably never noticed on my 8800, because I have always used a special profile I created from scratch, named with my initials, so I can easily scroll to it without looking to change profiles.

Thanks just wanted to help until they fix it to play like in the media player.

I am running the Bell version 4.2.2.123 and it is not fixed in that version, so I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing a fix anytime soon. Verizon hasn't even posted that version yet.

Running the latest firmware, rings louder than hell, volume also very loud.:?

Reading this, I have a couple of thoughts...

1. The ringtones that come with the phone, or those downloaded from mobile.blackberry.com, seem loud enough to use.

2. However, go play them in the Media Player. Notice they are much louder, without distortion. This is the volume that everyone wants to use for ringtones.

3. If I add my own MP3/M4A/WAV file as a ringtone, unless I maximize the volume in something like MP3Gain/AACGain before loading it on the BlackBerry, it's way too quiet, even on "High".

4. Doing some A-B listening tests with a friend who didn't see my screen, there appears to be no difference in modifying the existing profiles vs. making a custom profile. (I am using the latest 8830 firmware per the top of this forum.)

So for those who say "it's plenty loud!", I'm guessing you are using one of the built-in ringtones, mobile.blackberry.com ringtones, or your own that have had the gain turned up to the maximum setting.

I tried it on mine.. the new profile I created had it default on "high" so it did not seem any higher than the others :(

I was reading reviews of the 8830 on PhoneScoop and someone there (DebbieGom) posted a way to increase the volume of ringers. I tried it on my VZW 8830 and it worked wonders. It may also depend on how your phone is set up but is worth a try.....

You can read it there but, in short, you go into Profiles/Advanced, highlight the Profile, hit menu and Show Tunes. Highlight the tune you're using for the ringer and play it. While it's playing hit the volume keys on the RHS, bumping up the slider located in the LRH corner of the screen. Shot my MP3 ringer all the way up so that it's almost TOO loud.

Again, apologize if this is common knowledge but didn't see this in the thread. It's just that the 8830 is SO nice but has the low volume as one of its few faults.

it got very loud when turning it up, but i then called the phone and it was not as loud as playing it in the media player.

No change for me. Mp3's still play very loud in the media player but very quiet on ringer.

yea, forgot to check the volume when someone actually CALLS. It still seems pretty loud to me but perhaps I'm hearing what I WANT to hear.

I guess the best thing is to ramp up the volume of the MP3 BEFORE loading it on the phone (say with wavepad).
