I have a 7130e through Verizon. I also have a very functional Ipaq rx5915 Travel Companion that I would like to use without the necessity of always synching Outlook on it through my Acer laptop using MS ActiveSync.

I'm trying to figure out whether I can use the 7130e (which has Outlook on it) to synchronize Outlook on the Ipaq, which operates on Windows Mobile 5. I have had no success using the Bluetooth connection on both devices to have the 7130e act as a modem for the Ipaq.

Is there any way to connect the 7130e to the Ipaq to sync Outlook on both devices?

first the 7130e doesn't have Outlook on it. It simply syncs with Outlook as well. You can sync both devices with Outlook and have all info on both devices.

If I understand it correctly, since the 7130 is only syncing with Outlook exchange server, my only recourse is to figure out how to use the 7130 as a modem for the Ipaq and synch the Ipaq with the exchange server through the 7130 the same way I do through the laptop's internet connection, correct?


If so, I'm lost. Blackberry's customer service has advised me that it can't be done. Somehow, I doubt that given what I've read in other threads, but it isn't working for me.

You should still be able to sync the same Outlook profile with your Ipaq. You can't connect the 7130 directly to the Ipaq.

I can definitely sync the Ipaq with the Outlook exchange server. The problem is doing it on the road without having to drag a laptop with a Verizon broadband aircard around with me. The Ipaq has Bluetooth and Wifi and GPS, but it cannot hook into the internet unless connected to a hotspot or tethered to a laptop that's connected to the internet. Since most places I travel do not have free Wifi, I was hoping to connect to the exchange server through the BB.

The Ipaq with a bluetooth keyboard is almost as functional as a laptop, and a heck of a lot lighter to travel with. With all of the necessary office apps, TomTom, MP3 player, etc., it seems foolish to drag a laptop around just so I can sync Outlook on the Ipaq. I'm trying to find a way to leave the laptop at home.

Are you wanting to connect the BB to the ipaq via bluetooth and use the BB as a modem to connect the ipaq to the exchange server and sync? It's *possible* as I've heard of people getting that to work but it can be device and OS specific and I don't remember what works and what doesn't. Also, you need a tethering plan with Verizon, I believe, as well.

Yes, you are correct. The problem is with the plan. At least what my firm pays for with Verizon, I am told I cannot use the BB as a modem at all.

Are you trying to tether with your blackberry to get on the internet or use your bb as a dial up modem?

If you just trying to get on the internet by tethering it a $15/month add-on...
