Question Problem receiving email from .gov domain

Please Login to Remove!

I need help from this group, because I've apparently stumped T-Mobile and RIM.

Just got a 7100T and am using the Web Client option, being a solo entrepreneur. Some of my clients are with various agencies in the govt. Although emails from other domains are getting through to my Blackberry, none of the ones from the usdoj.gov domain are coming through unless they write directly to my Blackberry address. Some emails from other .gov addresses do get through, but not consistently.

Setting up forwarding in Outlook works (the emails come through on the Blackberry), but my main computer system is my laptop; it's on the road with me 4 days a week. So it's not on continuously in order to forward the email.

I've called T-Mobile twice and have been directed to RIM twice...for a total of 4 hours on the phone. (One of those hours was on hold waiting for RIM when I finally gave up and went to bed.) They have no idea what's going on.

I updated to ver. 4, and I thought that resolved it, but it didn't.

My ISP is Cox. If I'm getting the .gov emails in Outlook via Cox, shouldn't they be going over to the Blackberry as well? There are no filters active in the WebClient.

Thanks for any help you can give me. While my clients could cc my Blackberry email account, they're more likely to forget to do that.

Default Got an answer -- but not a resolution

Just in case someone else runs into this, here's the issue. According to RIM, Cox does something funky with the unique IDs it assigns to emails coming from this particular .gov environment. The something "funky" is non-industry standard spacing, apparently. When RIM looks at my Cox email server for emails, it skips these emails coming from the .gov environment because it won't recognize the space.

RIM said call Cox. I did. Cox said that since Outlooks retrieves the emails fine, it's a problem with RIM's protocol.

Of course, it could also be that the agency originating these emails is doing something funky with the unique identifiers.

So we narrowed it down to non-standard spacing in the identifiers. We just haven't gotten anyone to claim responsibility. Probably never will.

Yeah it must be RIM's problem.... except we deal with a ton of GOVT customers including the DOJ and I get and send emails all day to them. We use the BWC and ISP forwarding. Cox are just lazy and they likely have some kind of anti-spam software they don't know how to use.

I don't have a direct answer for you other than I gave up on companies like Cox a long time ago. Get a free gmail account - it will forward your emails just fine and has pop3 access for your outlook. Let me know if you need a Gmail invite

Sorry if I'm a little grumpy in my reply it's not you, I just feel your pain not getting any help.

RCG - Thanks for your reply. Yes, I WOULD like a gmail invite. I've been trying to figure out how to sign up with them.

Thanks again!
