Default shutting off data plan on 88330

Please Login to Remove!

I recently moved overseas. I want to keep my phone #, but I want to shut off the data plan because I won't be using it (I am switching to a UK carrier all together). Verizon is telling me that its not possible to shutt off data and use the Blacberry for voice only. Is this true, or is the person I spoke to incompetent?

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I have read on this board in the past of other Verizon users stating that.

The manual says that depending on your plan, you might be able to turn off data service. Verizon also told me it could not be turned off. Try this per the manual;

In device options click Mobile Network.

To turn off data service, set Data Services field to "Off".
To turn off data while roaming, set it to "Off when roaming".

Press Menu key then save.

Let me know what happens.

I also asked them about shutting off data services. They claimed that you MUST take a data service. They were worried about running up huge bills. I told them I would not configure e-mail etc. After 4 or 5 tries I found a support group who said they would do it if I wanted to go to a plan wherein you pay only by the kilobyte.

try calling: 800.711.2900. See what they say.

But paid full price for the phone.
