I have a 8703E with Sprint and just recently my phone cannot hold the 1XEV. It will show as 1XEV for a second and then revert back to 1X. I have called tech support and was told it was not available in my area. I looked on the map and I'm in the middle of the zone. I have also gone to other cities and aiports and it does the same thing. Any advice?
Mine did this for five days and when I called in the person that put the unlimited data plan on my account didnt put the free software that they are also suppose to add. Had to talk with Customer service for an hour until they realized it.
hello, I see your quote about plms with 1XEV and I want to know how do you get back to 1XEV with software? my alway on 1X and I want 1XEV on all the time so where I get the correctly software?
my phone usage is in strong 1XEV area with Verizon, but my device has a fluctuating signal, and sometimes get stuck on 1x even though I got full bars, I do a soft rest (alt+caps+del) and after it reboots I am back to 1XEV.
This happened on my 8830 with Verizon. I have always enjoyed a strong EVDO coverage in my home, but one day it was just 1X even though my modem and my partner's berry had 1XEV. I called in and finally it was fixed by deleting all the features from my account, removing the blackberry from my account, and then setting everything up all over again.
It's worth a shot...

My Sprint 8703e also fluctuates between 1X and 1XEV at my house (mostly 1X). Where I live, I've had spotty coverage with all the carriers and, when I first got Sprint, I was worried about signal strength although the coverage map shows me square in the middle of good coverage. When I zoomed in on the coverage map by entering my house address, it showed several areas of poor coverage inside the area that was painted as good when the map was zoomed out. I live on the edge of one of the poor coverage spots.
Even in areas with good or excellent coverage outside, when I go inside some buildings it changes from 1XEV to 1X. That suggests to me it a reception issue, not software.
I have the same issue with my Sprint 8703e. Constantly switching from 1X to 1XEV to 1x. It's especially bad near my home. I disagree with the previous replies claiming it is a reception issue. I have had numerous other Sprint data-capable phones and never had problems like this at my house. I believe it is one of two things (probably a combination).
1. Radio receiver has poor discrimination performance and cannot pick-out and hold a signal for very long.
2. Software that forces use of a very weak 1X Sprint signal when a much stronger 1XEV signal from another carrier (Alltel in my case) is available.
I'm hoping the 4.2 software update helps with the problem, but not holding my breath.
Another possibility is that I (we) just have phones with bad/marginal receivers. I have thought of eating $50 and getting a replacement from Assurion to test my luck. I think I will try that if the 4.2 update doesn't help.

Let us know if that solves it so we can do it too.
Like I said before, Just take it to the sprint store, they do a Master reset if it still doesnt provision or hold 1XEV they swap it out for a brand new one.

It provisions just fine and has no problem holding on to the 5-bar 1XEV signal at the Sprint Store. Therefore, there is of course nothing wrong with the phone from their point of view.
