Default Is it me or is the 7100 the worst for typing....

Please Login to Remove!

.....I had a 6230 and the telephone was weak but I could answer e-mails in a flash...I use 5000 minutes a month and get 250-300 e-mails a day.

Now I have the 7100 from T-mobile...the coverage is great where I live and I have no problem using it in Asia, Europe or the U.S. but...typing with suretype takes me forever since it doesn't like what I type and has not learned "me" yet in 3 months. If I take the suretype off the double click meathod is stupid....

Anyone have a solution????

Thank you

Elliot

Easy solution - buy a 7290.

If the 7100 keyboard doesn't work for you because you are a heavy email user and you liked your keyboard on the old BlackBerry, then the 7290 is the device for you.

I do lots of email on my 7100t, and only initially had a problem with it's type engine. I reply, at great length sometimes, to emails, text messages, etc. I'm always typing on it.

Have you gone through the typing tutorial?

I have to say that I was concerned with going to the 7100g after using the 7280 and 7780.
But, I allowed the Blackberry to work, and I find that I am typing nearly as fast as I did on the standard keyboards. I have had no problems (and no regrets) since switching.

How is the telephone on the 7290......does it have Bluetooth?

The 7230 was awful for telephone usage with no volume (I had 3 of them)...the 7100 is a great phone but......

7100 types great for me. took 2 days to get used to the keyboard. i initially had to look for the letters, but now my thumbs crank away. i will say the holding the device have cramped my right hand when typing a long email.

I tried doing 5 letters yesterday and gave up....the suretype picks words other than what I want....to prevent that I constantly have to click 3 or 4 times to get it going in the right direction and it is a total pain in the ***

On my 7100t, I've been forcing myself to type with it. Basically what I tell users when they ask me to compare a 7290 to a 7100, I tell them when I had a 7290, I was always willing to use it to respond, but when I have a 7100 and my computer is in front of me, I'd always choose my computer over my 7100t.

I agree....even when my computer is not in front of me....I wait until I get to the computer because I takes me 3 times as long to answer an e-mail over my 7230...

Paitents Grashopper. The sure type will "learn" from your typing over time. If overtime it still stinks, look to upgrade to a 7730, 7230, or 7290 on T-Mobile. Most people I have talked to like the 7100 aafter a week or so. Good luck.

Talking

Just dont look at the screen when you typy. I find that the 7100r is real nice to type on and it learns your typing. For instance, if you have a name in your Directory it will automatically think of it as a name in your Email and Cap it for you!

YAY 7100r I got your back

It has been over 3-4 months and it still has not learned.....I spend more time choosing from the choices on the meny beofre I can go on...if I don't choose it types the wrong word.

I actually type faster on the 7100G than I did on my 7290. I'm guessing it is because I was a high SMS user after living in Europe. Now the 7100G's SureType is a perfect compliment to my comfort with T9. I can see how it isn't for everyone, but I'm more than happy with it on my end.

Sounds like you are looking at the screen while the word is being typed. You need to have a little faith. Many times it isn't until the last letter of a word is typed that the correct word is shown. I can type just about anything, not looking at the sentence or even a paragraph until finished, and, assuming no typos, I rarely have to correct one word (with the exception of typing 'see' and having the 7100 assume 'are' as first choice). It is amazing how few words utilize the same key combinations by the time you finish typing them. If I need to spell certain names or places that I suspect in advance won't be interpreted correctly I just quickly switch over to multi-tap then back again.

Open the MemoPad app and just experiment, typing the following while looking just at the keys and without looking at the screen:

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy moon.

PhilMax is exactly right. Do not look at the screen while typing. It sounds silly until you actually do it, but "have faith" is actually sound advice for using SureType.

For everyone that's having issues with typing on the 7100 series handsets. It's not that hard... if you have been using units like the 7280 or series that use a full qwerty keyboard then it may be a little harder since you have to basically relearn how to use/type on your phone... I had a problem with it the first couple of months and then when I got used to it I fly by e-mails. I can type 2 e-maill with my 7100G in the time that I typed 1 when I used my 7280 and 90. It takes a little more patience and the willingness to try something new with a good mindset. Keep trying and I promise that it will get much more easy, I used to have to use 2 hands with the qwerty keyboard and now I only need to use one and it takes have the time.

I can fly on the 7100t, you just have to get used to it man and be somewhat coordinated (No offense meant to anyone). For words that you want to abreviate, you can add them to the settings.
