Your question is not so simple...

What is your goal?
Do you want to delete from your handheld only, or from both your handheld and desktop e-mail system?
Are you using BIS, or BES?
What e-mail provider and/or desktop e-mail system are you using?

If you are trying to delete multiple messages.... If you hold down the shift key and roll the trackball you can select multiple messages for deletion. After you have highlighted all the messages you wish to delete hit Menu>Delete Messages.

The other email delete option that I find really helpful is the delete prior options. Scroll until one of the date banners is highlighted. Press the menu key and select 'Delete Prior'. It will delete all messages older than and including the date banner you selected.

The default setting on most BB's is to only keep messages on the device for 30 days. I usually don't ever delete anything. I just let it fall away by itself, but that's just me.

Default Thanks all

Thanks all. I did the hold down shift and that works fine. I do not have a delete prior command on my RIM 8830 Blackberry?!? My blackberry email and my office email are separate. We have a Blackberry server at work and I am just using the two emails as duplicate places to pick up mail now. When I delete from Blackberry, it stays in Outlook.

You have to highlight one of the date banners before the delete prior option is available.

Default No dice

Well, just because I hate to not know why things aren't working (not cause I really need it in this case), I have highlighted everything I can think of and still get no "delete prior", only delete. I have highlighted the email in the list of emails, I have opened the message and highlighted each line including the date line, I have punched both the menu button and the center button for each instance and still no luck. My son always says to my wife that the reason we can do things on these devices (and computers, etc) is that we use trial and error with very little error. NOT true for me in this case, hehe.

As "Empty" said a post or two up...

You have to highlight one of the date banners before the delete prior option is available.

Delete prior works ONLY when you have a given date highlighted... but again, doing so will delete every email up to and including emails recieved on the highlighted date.

peace

I have an 8830 and I have a delete prior on mine. You need to select the actual date, i.e. Thu, Jul 12, 2007, and then hit the menu key (the key with the blackberry symbol). Then scroll to Delete Prior. Hit the track ball key. Follow any prompts.

Hope this helps.

no no no.... you're clicking on the wrong "date line"
Don't open the message and click on the date within the message.

You need to click on a particular Date in the LIST OF MESSAGES.

Thanks. Thought I had tried every combination, but not. Now I get it.
