Default 8703e and new BB software

Please Login to Remove!

Is it possible to download the new BB software on your device without downloading the desktop version on your laptop/computer? I have a mac and Verizon's website will only download Windows. However, it appears that you can download to your device (just the software update) but every time I try I get an error. I honestly don't care about the desktop software anyways as I rarely sync my device to my mac.

Any suggestions?

I don't believe there is a way to do an OTA OS download.

So for anyone who has a mac and not a windows OS computer/laptop - you aren't able to update your device? Anyone know of any work arounds on this?

Currently, there's no way around it.
You need a WIndows machine with Blackberry Desktop Manager to upgrade the handheld OS.

OTA OS updates are coming with future versions of BES and the handheld OS on the devices. Probably not anytime soon, however.

There's a Mac forum on this site where you can find answers.

Question

What new OS upgrade is Verizon offering for the 8703e? 4.2?

It all depends on who you talk to, some people say that 4.2 will be released for VZW and others are saying it's not. I know a couple people that have tried it and it slowed their BB's down a lot.

BlackBerry™ 4.x Software Download

It's not an update yet but I want to know if I could do this once it is out. The 4.1 update will not allow me to download OTA. Hearing everyone's response it seems I'm SOL. I need to know if/when mac users will ever be able to download as I am getting ready to purchase a laptop......windows or mac?

RedSoxFan, Don't base your decision on which laptop to purchase on whether or not you'll be able to update your BB's OS. It happens so infrequently that you could just use a friend's PC if you needed to when an update is available. Buy the laptop that will benefit you most and then work out the kinks from there.
