Unhappy 8800 data disconnecting

Please Login to Remove!

My problem started about the second month I received my 8800. It would just stop sending and receiving data. I could still use the phone, the edge text was all caps. Would do a regular restart, when it would boot back up, the edge text would be lower case. So I would have to pull the battery. I really did not know why it would do this. Then I noted that it would do it when I would be surfing the web. It would just stop communications, little error would come up. I tried just clearing the cache, but it still would not communicate. I'd pull the battery to get everything straight again. I just installed the Yahoo! Go, (which I love, especially the gps maps). Not to long into it, it'll stop sent receive data.

Well about 3 weeks ago I take it to the cingular store. They have never heard of that happening. The lady (Kendra) and the manager decided to switch my sim card to see if that would fix the problem. They advised me to call the warranty number if the problem keeped Next day I called, because the problem keeped Talked to a fellow named Ernst. We went thru the process of wiping out the system (backup before you do this so your info will still be there to reclaim). Ask to test that out for a couple of days to see if that will fix the problem. Before he hung up, he told me that if we end up sending me another BB, that it will be a refurbished unit. That really bugged me. Ive had my bb for almost three months, if I have a warranty issue, why in the world would they not send me a new replacement?

Anyway, has anyone had this issue? It seems like I reach a certain kb intake, then it shuts the data off.

Also, OS is up to date. I reinstalled that first to see if that was the problem.

Let me know if you need more info.

Every carrier does this for all phones (not just BB's) unless there just aren't any refurbs on hand for replacements. Even Dell does this with warranty replacements. Why would you expect a brand new device when you're not giving them a brand new device? 3 months old isn't new by any means. If it had been purchased within the past 30 days (i.e actually new) you could have returned it and picked up a new one.

I have this happen on mine every so often too. Its like it or the tower just turns off the data. Usually the interruption only last a few minutes so for me its not big deal, but takeshi's right about the refurbs (and everything else), it sucks.

This happens to me once or twice a week. Very annoying and nothing I do seems to restore the data function. It recovers by itself, but it requires several hours wait before it occurs. Cingular had no answers for me, either.

well its not just a gsm thing because my sprint 8830 does the same thing, if i take out the battery and reset it, it will coem back. The error message i get says "data connection lost. server unavailable. contact service provider if problem persists". which leads me to a question, is there a way to do a soft reset without taking the battery off, my battery door is already loosenng up and i have only had the phone 3 days. thanks

I,M glad I'm not the only one. Just pull battery, it should set up on restart. I'm thinking this is a software problem. I'm gona contact rim tomarrow about the problem.
