Great point! Does anyone know what "wave" the 8830 is in at VZW? Is there any way to look at the serial number of manufacture date (if indicated) on the exterior of the box to know? I'll be getting one in the next few days.

It's a handy rule of thumb but my 7290, my first 8700c and my 8800 were all "first wave" devices and I've never had problems with any of them. YMMV.
