Default 8700c - Problem when syncing with ACT

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to help my boss sync his 8700c Edge with his ACT Database. I go through all the motions with the latest BB Desktop Software (4.2 SP2), but I get to the point where the contacts from ACT try to sync with the BB, and I get a pop up box. First one asking for a username and after that, another asking for a password. He tells me he never set up his BB or ACT to take a password or username.

I don't know where to look for this username & password. Is this something that the BB software is asking for, or ACT?

In the past he had no problems syncing his ACT Database with BB (using older BB & ACT software). He wanted the ACT upgraded so I updated that. Then the sync wouldn't work so I upgraded the Desktop software. He got 1 good sync after the software updates. When he tried to sych after that it would only sync from the earlier date. So after some fiddling with ACT, I was able to see the latest database save date in the sync window. But it started to ask for the username / password. Even when I try to sync the ACT demo Database, it asks for this username or password.

These are some of the things I tried:
- Created a new Act database to make sure there was not a username / password on it.
- Uninstalled & reinstalled the latest Desktop Software.
- Attempting to sync with both ACT running in the background and not running.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi.. I have a few users syncing to ACT 6.0 successfully.

All ACT users have a User Name and but all have a password. If your boss doesn't have to enter a password when opening ACT, then you should just have to type his User Name in. Look in ACT, in File, Maintenance, Users (or something like that) and see what his name is entered as in the list of users. That should be the User Name and the Blackberry desktop software is looking for.

ACT should be closed when trying to sync as well.

I have one user with a large ACT database on ACT 2007 (like 6000 records). I used the CompanionLink software and it works better then BB Desktop. It's only $50 so not too bad either. Might want to check that out.

CompanionLink -- AddOnStore for ACT!

BBs are way easy to sync to anything... Try a Treo! That's hard.

Let me know how far you get.

I ended up going with the CompanionLink Pro Software. That looks like a little overkill. I might just end up going with the Express Version.

I found in ACT where you could make a Username and Password, so I did that. But the BB software wouldn't take the Username / Password that I created.

After checking things out in ACT. I noticed the old database created in ACT 6 saved the database as a .dbf file, that the BB software would sync with no problem, ACT 9.0 saves the database as a .pad file, and that is when it would start asking for the dreaded Username / Password.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Ahh the crazy pad file. Glad the CompanionLink worked for you as well.

Glad I could share some knowledge....
