Default 7100 Died

I took my 7100 off the charger this morning and everything was fine. I had a CPE seminar today that started at 8AM. The proctor of course told everyone to turn off cell phones. I usually just turn mine to "quiet."

I pulled my 7100 out of the holster and it was powered off. The seminar was over at lunch and it would not power up. I go by the Nextel store and he tells me it's not a battery problem, it's a hardware failure. In his exact words, "toast."

I realize I can get all my contacts thru my SIM card, but is there ANY way to retrieve my data. I know I'm horrible for not having a more recent backup, but there ya have it.

I have my personal checkbook in there. Tax return due dates for 28 states, the counties within and each city within that county, my personal bills basically everything.

One thing the guy behind the counter said that has really bothered me is, "These Blackberry's are bad about this." I've never heard of one going dead myself, 'cept mine.

I'm thinking same as crazydude. My gut is it's dead and you should go get latest, prettiest new BB. But don't trust the guy at the store. If you have info you need and can't recreate without a lot of sweat and heartache, pull out the stops to revive that 7100.

I'm here at my office with my cord, I just don't have a disk for Desktop Mngr. I have a back up on my computer at home, unfortunately I'm not very disciplined at backing up often.

I know this is no excuse but I've had PDA's since the first Palm came out. I had three Palms, a HP Pocket PC, a Treo w/ Palm and a Samsung w/ Palm. I also had two of those things that came out right after Palms did and they used a Palm OS. I can't remember what they were called, but I used to get free download software from Handango.com?

I say all that jibberish above only to point out that everyone of the above sat on a base that simultaneously charged it and sync'd it. With my 7100, it's two separate cords to charge and sync and they go into the same hole. I guess I got lazy and now I'll pay for it.

I'm not getting any LED lights blinking, error messages or anything. It's just blank.

What do you mean by pull out the stops? I'll do just about anything to get some of my info back. It took a long time to create it and it will take longer to recreate it.

TIA

there are not two seperate cords to charge and sync with the 7100i. You can download the dm off this site go to the bb faq in my sig and look for it.

I was referring to what crazydude wrote. Just general. I don't know what can be done, but I was also thinking of the remote possiblity a solution is buried here on the board.

About the charging and backup, you don't have the one mini-USB plug? I had the 7100t (that the radio went out on after several good years of use) which I assumed was similar. Anyway for the future think about setting DM to do auto backup. It is fast--at least it isn't slow to me.

Mine came with one cord that had a USB end to go to my computer and the other end matched the only female receptacle on my phone other than headphones. The other cord had that same end that went into the female receptacle of my phone and the other end was a standard 110 wall plug.

Is there an aftermarket cord that does both?

trust me they are the same cords. they do the same thing you can plug either into the wall adapter. but both will charge it from the PC
