Default Text characters in phone number

I have a lot of phone numbers in my contact database in my computer that contain word descriptions in the phone number field, after the phone number. Such as “new number” or “direct line.” When these are transferred to my BB, when the number is dialed, the words are dialed with their numeric equivalents and the calls don’t go through with Verizon. Short of changing all my records, any suggestions of how to deal with this?

Short of changing all your records, no suggestion.

Changing all your records is the best way to deal with it. I had a similar problem in mine a few years ago when I switched over to a BB. I just decided I would do a few corrections each day, from my PC, and let it sync to my BB. Over about 2 months and 2500 contact records, it was done.

Another way, export to an Excel file, truncate the Phone number fields at the proper number of digits and save, re-import back to Outlook or whatever you are using.

I had the same question and was hoping for a better answer. I can easily delete the alpha characters in Outlook, but I want them there. I want to know when I'm using my Blackberry that this mobile number is his Razor phone and this one is his Blackberry, for example. What's the point in having an "other" phone number listing if you can't add text to explain where the other number goes?

Is there no character, like a special bracket or quotes, that will tell the Blackberry to ignore the digits after it when dialing?
