Default Google Mail POP on 8800 dumps 100s of old emails to my device

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody else has seen this anomaly?

I've been using gmail on pop now for a couple of months, every now and then, for no apparent reason, around 200 old emails will be dumped back into my blackberry message box.

It's really annoying I was wondering if anybody knew why it was happening and how to stop it.

thanks a lot

I have never had that issue with GMail. Do they seem to be the same ones? Are the messages marked as new or unread inside GMail?

Do you also use another POP client to access your gmail account?

Do you have more than 400 messages in your gmail inbox (on the gmail server)? There is another thread about this problem (can't find it). For some reason more than 400 messages is a problem for some people and it loses track of what messages are new/old.

In gmail, did you enable POP for all mail, or only for mail that is received from now on?

does this mean 400 messages on the server, or in the inbox? this issue happens to me about once every 4-5 weeks. does RIM know about this?

hi guys, sorry for the delay, I forgot about the problem till it happened again today.

I think 400+ mails in the inbox might be the problem, I never archive anything so there was 2600+ that might cause the problem!

anyway I've upgraded the firmware today (thanks again bbforums) and archived all mails in gmail - if you don't hear from me again then the problems fixed - here's hoping!

NOPE! - ffs this is getting really annoying now.

So I cleared down my gmail inbox and it's still dumping loads of old emails randomly. Slightly less than before about 130 this time when it's "normally" 200 random old emails

I'm going to keep a log see if there is a pattern

17th Aug - 17:34 - 126 mails, oldest 10th August 23:05

Any help greatly appreciated! even if its help to tell me who I should get in touch with!

here's hoping........ niks

I've had the same thing happen, but only once in my month of ownership. It happened less than a week ago and I have no idea why it happened. It wasn't a huge deal to delete them all at once but if it happened more often then that would get annoying. I don't know if this is related or not, but it happened soon after I updated to the new OS and installed opera mini beta along side opera mini.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Thought I would just add that my inbox is cleared daily and has likely never had more than 75 emails inbox at a time.

Well it hasn't happened over the weekend which is good.

this might sound like a noddy question, but how do you delete all the mails at once on the 8800?!? This is the most annoying thing that I have to go into each mail and the close it so get my "unread" counter back to zero everytime.

If there is a way of doing this in one hit I could also live with this annoyance I think!!

I hold down the button while I scroll with the wheel.

It happened to me for the second time today. Once again 200 emails while there were less than 20 in my inbox and all had been read. It happened right after a reset.

There is apparently a problem lately with mobile networks, or just blackberry, and gmail accounts with a lot of messages in them.

100-200 messages may end up getting flooded down and it doesn't appear to be fixed yet. What I would suggest for now is setting up a forwarding rule to a BlackBerry address, so that your BIS service is not pushing, it is just reacting to a forwarding rule setup inside of gmail. This should prevent the large message floods for now until it eventually gets fixed, through gmail or the BIS.

Not sure, I don't have nor have ever had this problem..

1 of 3646 (this is how many emails I have in my gmail INBOX)

To me the point of gmail is to have a ton of email that is instantly searchable

hey, im a curve user and i had a similar prob like once a month or every few days....here is what i did in temporary to fix it..go to your gmail pop settings and tell it to "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on"

then save it. that will keep it from re-feeding down all that old mail for now...might have to repeat this later on possibly. worked for me!

Default it's happening again...

i've since become the newest victim of this annoying problem.

i've had gmail through BIS (for 4 separate gmail accounts) for quite some time now and it's never happened until this morning. and at an inopportune time; during a managers meeting.

anyway, i got 200 emails dumped onto my BB from just a single gmail account; so i'm trying to determine if perhaps those of us who have piles of emails in our gmail account, does it push to the BB when it hits a certain threshold in the gmail inbox as a result of some freakish programming hiccup? otherwise, i dunno why it would dump mail from one account, but not from the other 3.

anyone?

Have you guys tried moving your mail from your inbox to your archives in gmail? That seemed to help me! Good luck!
