I just found this article at RIM that confirms that A2DP stereo bluetooth is supported on the 8830 with device software 4.2.2.240 (which is available for download from Bell or Sprint, but not Verizon yet). 8830 A2DP Support

Yes it works and rather nicely. Hooked mine up to a pair of O ROKR Oakley Bluetooth sunglasses and I can take/place calls, listen to music all in one device.

I wouldn't expect Verizon to allow this functionality to work however since they disable everything except the phone headset profile, but who knows.

Can't you download the Sprint or Bell OS onto your phone and make it work now, rather than waiting for verizon to update?

Yes. You can load the Bell or Sprint software just fine. Whether Verizon has shut off A2DP is another question...

Is there a way to check without buying the headphones first.

I updated mine today after the confirmation of A2DP for the 8830. I'm now listening to tunes on my BlueAnt X5 stereo headset. The update takes a long time! Don't disconnect in the middle of the update. Remember to rename or delete your vendor.xml file too.

Awesome new wingr!!! Thanks for the confirmation that it actually works on the VZW 8830. I guess there is nothing stopping me from getting that BT car stereo I've been eyeing.
