Default unlock didn't work, please help

Please Login to Remove!

So I got a blackberry 8800 locked to cingular from a friend who recently quit his job at crane. They had some falling outs and basically they wouldn't unlock it for him so he gave it to me and I get the pleasure . I'a couple phones before, but this is the first one I needed to get an imei unlock code for it. I got it from cellunlock.net (I won't go into that right now) and after I put the code in through the advanced options mepd, alt-mepe method, it says it was unlocked, but it won't recognize my sim. I'm not sure why. Is there some cooperate security I've over looked and I need to toast? I'm new to the black berry, so don't assume anything. I'm rather naive when it comes to this.

Thanks!

-mike

An unlocked 8800 won't say "unlocked" on the mepd screen.
It'll say Network Inactive, or Network Disabled.

What exactly does your 8800 have on the screen next to Network when you go to
Options > Advanced Option > SIM Card > type m e p d ?

The message I get when I insert the sim card into the phone is 'insert sim card' at the top of the screen. When I go into advanced options, sim I type in mepd I get all of them are disabled. Does that mean it's unlocked?

Yes, its unlocked. There is some issue with the sim card or the sim card holder. Sliding a sim card into a locked phone will give you "invalid sim card."

Yes, sounds like it's unlocked.
Maybe the SIM is bad, or not installed properly?

Glad you were able to figure this out! I use cellunlock.net (although I generally go through ebay to pay them because it's $10 less that way) and they have always given me valid unlock codes within 24 hours (although it is 23.5 hours sometimes)/

yes, thank you for your help. They got it to me in like 72 hours. Which is okay, because it's a real vendor and not one to steal my imei number and rack up charges

If they didn't get it in the 24 hour time frame the promise, I would have requested a refund. It's their service commitment and they should stand up to it.
