Default 8830 Sprint without data plan using BB Browser

Please Login to Remove!

I get my first BB without the Data Plan and installed the Opera Mini and works excelent... but the problem is that anytime I try donwload any application to installa it redirects to the BB Browser and appears this message...
Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries.
Please contact your service provider to enable the Browser on your device"

I need set something on the phone or is Sprint data plan required.

Also the links in the messages goes to the BB Browser some way to redirect to Opera Mini.
Thanks

Karl

I dont know how they activated your phone or even why you would get this phone or any smart phone without data. Basically everything on a smart phone uses data. But in the case oft he BB I was told that if you get a BB on sprint or any other carrier you have to get a mandatory BB data connect, now I know some people who just have data plan and no voice but thats still odd to carry around 2 different phones.

I had before T-Mobile MDA and SDA Smartphones without Data Plan, usualy putting on Tzones the right settings you can use the internet and many network applications. I got this phone because I red that you can use the Opera over the Sprint plan, also when I ordered online I can avoid the $40 for the data plan.

I think that I still install an Email application and many others that connect to the internet, and avoiding the BIS services. Really I don't need PUSH MAIL.

No need to try and cheat the provider as we all end up paying for the scams....... Bottom line is a BlackBerry is NOT a SDA or MDA.... You need a BlackBerry Data Plan

Best wishes

be careful, you could get a nasty surprise on your bill. If you are able to use data, they know and they could charge you by the KB.

You can use opera but you need a data plan. If you really dont need push email then get a treo, I dont need it either and I gave up my $10 a month grandfathered power vision plan and had to change to the BB connect for $39 a month. You wont be able to cheat the BB or even the treos into giving you free internet on sprint, at most with the treo you could cheat the system by adding a file that would allow free phone as a modem.

But you answered your question in the first post, you need a sprint data plan trust me $39 a month is cheap vs paying .02 kb you will easily hit $100+ with light surfing and email if you do it daily and especially if you are installing applications.

I think you might want to look into taking the phone back if you dont want to pay the BB service fee. I am glad to pay $30 more a month than to have to use a treo again.

Plenty of people use BB's without data plans regardless of whether you understand or not. Everyone has different needs.

However, if you want to download you must use the built-in browser and a prerequisite for the built-in browser is a BB data plan. If you're skipping on the BB data plan then you'll have to load stuff via USB. That's it.

A BB data plan is required in order to do about anything but make phone calls. You got to pay to play.

I highly recommend getting a data plan if you want to download apps or files OTA. If you don't use the email or browsers, then you can find many apps for download to your PC and you can then install them using the Blackberry Desktop software.

PS - I recommend T-Mobile for BB data and voice, at $60 for unlimited data, email, and SMS with 1,000 minutes, I haven't seen a better deal out there.

That plan is terrific, hopefully Sprint learn about that and give a better plan with BB and Voice. I appreciate your suggestion and the others.

I have this problem... Sprint configured my 8830 wrong. I'm trying to straighten it out now. I'm supposed to be on the SERO with non-BB data plus the $40 all you can eat BB data plan. Only the SERO was provisioned. They left the BB off entirely -- kind of defeats the purpose imo. The SERO/BB combo requires a specific order in their computer to get it right and they didn't do it. To top it off, I didn't get the unlimited text messaging either... My 2nd go around with Sprint. I haven't been impressed either time.

Sorry to hear that man, they got my SERO/BB plan right on the first shot, maybe you just had some dumbass rep... Good luck this time.
