Default VZW 8830 one.five month summary report

Please Login to Remove!

The good:
- Phone has held up through dirty and wet conditions, international travel, a few spills, and tens of software adds/removes

- The keypad and trackball aren't bad at all (and I have big sausage fingers)

- Has been stable through most operations with the exception of some video crashes

- International roaming, after initial hangups, has been great

- EQO works fine on it in case you have a lot of International calling requirements

- It isn't a Treo

The bad:
- While battery life isn't that bad RIM shouldn't ever release a new corporate device w/o a higher-density extended battery again

- The speaker phone isn't as crisp as the one on the 8703e

- It's still ridiculous to have to remove the battery cover (not to mention hard) for the microSD slot

- Not having GPS and MMS is annoying (although well known when we got into the VZW bucket)

Cheers, -Pk

I would tend to agree with all your points but one. Love the trackball and the OS is great.

I still dislike the the keypad. Yes, I have gotten used to typing on it, but I still miss the feel the separate buttons gave when typing. In addition, the blue backlight on the silver buttons is terrible.

I like the silver now, but would like to replace just the keypad with a black version. Hey, it would still match.

Don't worry, drop the thing a couple times and the battery door is easier to remove. My wife is still amazed at the gasp I make when my Blackberry is in mid-air.

I think the sound quality is very different between phones. My first 8830 was not so good. Although when I replaced the phone because of a broken track ball it's excellent.
