Default Cingular 8800 on tmobile service?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey there all, I am about to trade my sidekick 3 in and am going to buy a cingular BB 8800 . I was wondering if I needed to unlock it to use on the tmobile service? If so, how would I unlock it? Is there instructions somewhere online? Also, I am going to sign up for the 20$ internet plan on tmobile, will I be able to use the Blackberry maps feature?

If not unlocked you need to unlock it.

First, you need to get the unlock code. Either from at&t or an unlocking service.

Then you need to enter the code. There are instructions in various threads here and IIRC also on BlackberryFAQ.com.

BB Maps isn't a feature -- it's an app. You can use any GPS-enabled app that will run on the 8800. If you're leaving the Cingular OS load on the 8800 you'll probably need to remove the vendor ID's from LBS.alx and then launch the App Loader in Desktop Manager to update your BB. Personally, I'd recommend finding a better GPS app...

Hi there. I use a Cingular 8800 on T-Mobile. As with any GSM phone, you have to have the carrier lock removed before using it with another provider. If you are not a Cingular customer, I would recommend checking out ebay. I would send you a direct link to an unlock service that provides unlock codes within 24 hours, but I'm not sure if that is allowed on this forum since I'm new here. If you go to the right place, you can get it unlocked for less than $20.

You have to download and install a GPS app.

If you are merely interested in verifying the functionality of your GPS, and you are not asking where the icon for the map program is, you can access the GPS through:

Options--> Advanced Options--> GPS

From that screen, you can use the GPS to get your current coordinates and perform minor tasks related to the GPS in your device.
