Default Buying 2nd hand 8800 for use with Vodafone UK

Please Login to Remove!

Hello there,

I'm in the process of buying a 2nd hand 8800 to use with Vodafone in the UK.

I think the phone has been used for a while before the previous owner upgraded to a different phone.

I remember with the first Blackberry I had a few years ago, the dealer I bough tit from had forgotten to tell me it had been used by another customer for a couple of days. This wasn't too much of a problem, but memory tells me a couple of faxes had to be sent to 'release' the phone from the original user's account.

Just wondering if there's anything I should do to speed up the process of getting my 8800 connected?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, make sure the previous owner has released the PIN from his current carrier. In other words, that the PIN is still not tied to a current BIS account. You will need it "free" to set up your own account.

Likewise, ask if it has been used on a corporate BES system. If it has, ask the user to have a blank IT policy sent to the BB from the BES Admin.
Look at Options > Security Options > General Settings. Scroll down, if there is anything listed at the bottom under "services" it has an IT policy on it, and you may wish to reconsider the purchase if the seller says he can't do it.

You can wipe and reload the OS when you get it, if it still has any of his personal info on it.
