Default Telenav Is there a cheaper option for 8800

Or is telenav the only option? $10 a month seems like a lot. But it is cool....

Try the GPS section. I havn't seen anything. Garmin and MapQuest have verisions but they are the same price. There is Wayfinder (buy, not subscription) but that hasn't received good reviews on this site. You can also try Google which isn't really navigation software. Finally there is the free BBMaps which, in my opinion, isn't worth the price.

Like the previous poster said, check the GPS forum.

If voice direction is important, Telenav is about it.

Google Maps and Yahoo! Go are good free mapping programs, they will both do turn-by-turn directions, but not voice direction.

Default Mapquest Navigator

Mapquest Navigator is free, although some features are disabled in the free version.

Good maps, turn by turn directions, works really well.

The only free option with turn by turn voice instructions I've seen is Nav4all, Nav4All - Free gps navigation for your mobile phone!. It works, but I find the UI very difficult to use, and keep in mind it is still a work in progress.

Regarding Telenav, at first I had difficulty accepting a subscription based service at $10.00 month, however, if you need a GPS and you use it, it is really well worth it IMO. It compares favorably to the cost of a stand alone unit, when you consider the expected lifespan of an electronic item, not to mention the maps and POI database always being current on Telenav. The last issue for me is that I always have my BB with me, thus I always have my GPS, it is never in the other car, or with a dead battery, or whatever.

On the other hand, if you don't really need the capability, and you're simply dealing with the "its a cool feature", then $10.00/month is pretty steep.
