I am a new BB 8830 user. I was able to sync my address book but it appears that not all addresses copied properly. Alternatively, I cannot find the contacts but they are there. I assume that I am not the first person to have this problem. I would appreciate all advice.

Are you using BES or BIS ? If you are an individual user and you purchased the BlackBerry you are on BIS. BES is a corporate server. BIS is what AT&T, T-Mobile & other carriers provide with you data plan. Next are you using Outlook for your contacts or something else? What vesion of BlackBerry desktop Mgr ?

I am an individual user using Verizon for my 8830. I do not use Outlook and still have my contacts on my Palm Desktop on my computer. This is because I use Firefox and was told that my BB cannot sync with Firefox. I do not know what version of desktop manager I have. Please tell me how to check that out.

I'm sending this via by BlackBerry, so working from memory I believe if you look under one of the menu choices I Desktop Mgr such as help, the drop down menu will have a choice called "about" if you click on that it should display the version number.
Sorry I can't answer your questions regarding the Palm desktop & sync as it's been a long time since I last used a Treo.
What I would highly suggest is to consider using Outlook if you have it. I am using Outlook & the advantages are many. First it provides just one place for all your info such as Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, & Notes. Then you never have to worry about backing up your BB as everthing resides in Outlook. Also in my case I have 3,500 contacts & the combo of a BB & Outlook is super fast & ultra reliable. It used to take nearly 20 min to do a sync with other windows mobile smart phones I used. With my BB that same sync operation takes just under 2 min. Not once has it failed me & I do 3 syncs each day as my schedule is very dynamic.
Another thing I might suggest is to perform a search of the forum if you've not done so, as there is a lot of info here from other Treo users that switched to a BB as you have.

My operating system is 4.2.2.12.

My contacts are synced to Outlook Express. Due to my syncing with my Palm, I have multiple contacts for many names. I have two questions:

1. Can I combine the multiple contacts for the same person either on my BB or in my Outlook Express Contacts?

2. Can I configure my BB so that the entire address appears on the screen so that I can more easily identify the correct address?

I'm not familiar with Outlook express however if it operates like Outlook then you will be alble to do all your corrections & eliminate your duplicates using your computer then do a sync & they will all be sent to your BB.
As far as what is displayed on the BB it works as follows: from the address book on the home screen you click once to open it where you see the list of names, highlight the name you want & chose view & you will see the address, all phone numbers, email address & any notes or other info you have for the contact. This is one of the features I like best on the BlackBerry is the terrific way contacts are handled. It may not be as fancy to look at, but each contact card is very complete, and you can include as much info per contact as you like, at least in Outlook.
