I am using Outlook (2007) on my desktop and a Blackberry Exchange Server hosted by my email hosting company (Mi8).

Most junk email goes to my junk folder and the ones that don't, I put there with the "add to junk sender" function in Outlook. I then empty the junk mail folder on my computer periodically. I realize that the Blackberry can't keep track of this and that I manually have to empty the junk mail folder from it. Annoying, but fine.

However, I still end up with stray junk email in my Inbox (all of which has been moved to the junk folder on my desktop, and then deleted).

In addition, I have a few emails that I have moved to my personal folders for storage on my desktop but they are not removed from my Blackberry Inbox (even after reconciling).

Is this common? When I used a Motorola Q, I never had to manually clean out my handheld this much (which is annoying).

I contacted Mi8 but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. I have had this problem on and off for a while now. We have tried resending the service book. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you permanently delete messages or move them to a PST the change cannot be reconciled. BES can only reconcile changes that occur within your Exchange mailbox. PST files are local to your PC and are not on the Exchange server.

IF Mi8 offers upstream spam filtering I highly recommend getting that service. MailStreet offers their Defender Antispam service and it works extremely well. Spam doesn't even make it to my Inbox so my Junk Mail folder pretty much stays empty. Needless to say, I don't have to worry about spam on my BB (unless it comes from a BIS account but I don't have any email set up via BIS at the moment).

I'd also like to add that Outlook's "Junk Mail" filtering is not really "a fix" for your spam issues. It does not do anything to defeat the spam from coming in in the future. This means that you'll always get spam from the same spaming bots all the time without actually helping to "solve" the spam issues out there. Without appropriate filtering and reporting technologies in place to control this you're just adding to the pile of people triggering these spam tactics. I would think in today's world every ISP (if they are a major one) should have anti-spam engines in place. I know mine does.
