My company has issued all Blackberries with password protection permanently enabled. Because of this, I can't find a way to bring up and call from my contact list w/o logging in, which is inconvenient and frustrating when I'm in a rush. Is there any way to set up a phone list that I can use while the unit is still password locked? Thx.

I highly doubt it. If the phone is locked then it will need to be unlocked in order to access most functions. This functionality would, in a sense, defeat the purpose of having a password on the phone.

Through Options -> Security -> General Settings, you can enable the ability to "Allow Outgoing Calls When Locked". This allows you to either dial numbers or select numbers/contacts from the recent Call Log, but it does not allow direct access to the Address Book.

Thx Visortgw. I got that far -- can call out, but I no call log appears from which I can choose names or numbers. Am I missing something?

Phone is locked. Hit return Key. "Handheld is locked" with four options -- "Unlock", "Place Call", "Emergency Call", "Cancel". Select "Place Call", and call log automatically opens.

Hmmm, looks like exactly the same OS as you - 4.1.0.377. I'm starting to think maybe our IT dept set IT policy on all phones to not show any contact info unless user is logged in. I guess I can live with it if I have to.
