Default Can the transmitter be turned off?

Is there any way to have the power turned on ... but the transmitter/receiver turned off. This is if I were on a plane for example, and wanted to use the calendar etc but not use the email or the phone. Thanks ...

Yes, go into connections and uncheck the "mobile network" option.
