Broken USB Charger Port on 8800..Need Advice

I have a problem similarly reported in this forum. I purchased a BB 8800 from a private seller and have been using the device on ATT. Unfortunately, the USB charger port is broken and I can no longer charge the device with the travel charger (I also cannot sync). I must charge the device by removing the battery and charging it in an external charger (this is a real pain). I contacted BBrepair.com but they have no 8800 parts as of yet in order to repair the device. ATT won't budge because I didn't by the phone from them. RIM wants $180 for a refurb and $230 for a new device which I think is absurd given their cheap construction and design flaw.

Before, I go back to my crappy Treo are there any repair/replacement options that I have missed?? I could upgrade to the 8820 when it comes out but all of this talk of ATT limiting the 8820 GPS capabilities makes me hesitant. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really think the 8800 is the best smartphone that I have had. I just wish that it would have lasted longer.

You can look in the buy trade sell portion of this site and put up a WTB ad (wanted to buy) and see what you can find or troll the WTS for a similar model.

Also, I would like a little deeper on the net and see what you can find. Check with them to see if they are parting out a similar model. If you are handy and are diligent, should be able to scare something up.

Get some workaround for you.
Maybe get a desktop cradle and charge the battery with the side connection.
Get a bluetooth usb adapter for sync.
Install app OTA.
I also had read a previous post that a member took it to a local electronic store and they solder back the usb connection for him.

Try check it out here

You can take it apart and see if the problem is a broken connection.

The silver square on the bottom left of the board is the mini usb port.

I have a really n00bie question but what side port is available other than the USB port to charge the phone. What cradle would charge the phone without using the USB port?? Thanks again.

On the left side of your 8800 there are two small copper contacts for charging with the right cradle.

So that's what those to conatcts are for. Thanks very much. Any recommended chargers. Some seem to use the USB port and some use these contacts but it is difficult to ascertain from the specs.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Also on the buy and sell forums, somebody selling 2 8100 battery for $10 each shipped, and since you get the external charger, you can also go that route.
