8700g Keyboard

I am new to this forum and just upgraded to the 8700g. I was previously using the 7105t, but it was a welcome upgrade for the beautiful screen, faster processor, and the full QWERTY keypad.

My only beef with this phone is I am not crazy about the fact that the keys move around and shift slightly when I type. It's seems like it should be sturdier. I've read some similiar posts on here, and quite a few people have reported that the 8700g keyboard seems a bit loose.

I hope I can get used to it , but its quite annoying. I was assured by a few people at the T-Mobile store, as well as Blackberry tech support, that this is normal and not defective.

Anyone have a similiar experience? Will I eventually get used to it, or should I claim a defect during my warranty period and get a replacement 8700g?

I have heard this about the BlackBerry 8700g. Mine does shift ever so slightly, but not enough to cause issues. So this is normal. They, by no means, shift a lot. This is my first BlackBerry, though, so I can't compare to another device.

I noticed the keyboard move one day while pressing the call end key or something and started paying attention. Hasn't been a problem.

Sounds like its a somewhat common issue with the keyboard.

So I guess getting a replacement wouldn't make that much of a difference.

I just wish it felt sturdier.

Brandy, that issue was reported a few times around here when the 8700 first came out. I recall two common fixes...
1-if you are brave enough, etc., to take the housing off, you might could tighten the four screws holding the unit tight. See disassembly pictures and tools needed at the FAQ site.

2- put a normal thickness business card on top of the battery before you replace the battery cover door.

Good luck.

I don't know if it was always that way or came loose at some point. Haven't been too concerned, as I say, and haven't compared to other 8700's. But does seem it's common.

EDIT: I see above....I guess it did come loose...

Thanks for the info and as far as the fix methods, I will try the business card behind the battery. I'm not brave enough to tighten the screws, as if anything else goes wrong with the phone (knock on wood), my warranty coverage will not be compromised.

I guess every device has its quirks.
