Default Is Gmail safe on a Corporate Blackberry?

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8700c through my company and I wanted to receive gmail on the phone, however I wanted to know if there was any way for my company to scan or monitor the email I receive through gmail on the blackberry? Thanks for any responses.

Yes, all data through a BES connected BB can be monitored by your company. You can use the Gmail app, that might be a little more private but still data is monitored.

You should make sure you aren't violating any company policies before you try it, since it is their device and they are paying the freight. Not worth a reprimand or losing your job.

I want to agree with and reinforce the above...... Talk to your IT people first. This is definitely one of those instances were it is better to ask permission now than ask for forgiveness later.

With BES 4.1.4 we (BES Admins, or company officials asking for this information) can save everything on the device -

phone call logs, SMS messages, outside email, etc.

Does your company have the time or inclination to monitor or record this stuff? Probably not. But the ability is there. And call logs are saved to the BES server by default now. I would just assume that anything done on that device is not private.

Interesting...I was wondering about privacy on email plugins for personal email on each device.

I've got 4.1.4 as well so I need to find these logs in case the data is ever requested.

I couldn't find a log related to data coming through with gmail or a personal client and the gmail plugin is definitely used here. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I checked C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs\20070823

If you are on BES they can review Web Activity, Email, PIN and IM.... they can access everything on the Handheld.

How about Password Keeper? Does BES 4.1 have access to that data unencrypted?
