lock the keyboard for one.

I read a thread of suggestions about this on the board here. Look for posts by Mark Rejohn, I believe you will find some helpful tips.

Good luck.

You can use the desktop manager to delete the phone application.

I would rather disable it than delete it

I don't believe it's possible to disable the phone feature without disabling all the data as well. You can disable data and have phone feature remaining but not vice versa.

I tried deleting the phone application using Desktop Manager and it caused major issues. It wouldn't even boot (I was getting some strange error message).

Can you just turn off the "wireless" but still use the messaging function?

No, turning off the wireless turns off phone and data, everything.

Lock the keyboard if you is making accidental "pocket" calls, etc., and read Mark's posts about the same subject--or even PM him direct, as mentioned above.

I had sent him a pm but I haven't got a reply yet. I will use the keyboard lock from now on until there is a way to disable it. Thanks.

Search back through Mark's posts. He has lots of info out there, it's a little old, but he is a sharp guy who happens to be deaf as well and has done a lot of work with the BB and apps for the hearing impaired.

Try the following:

Launch Call Log (aka Phone) application. Select menu Options => General Options. Set "Dial From Home Screen" to "No". Return to home screen -- hide Call Log application.

Not a bad idea. That will work as long as the "Phone" button doesn't get pushed.

I'm not sure if this will help but Sprint offers the Blackberry with data plan and no phone plan. Try your cell provider and see if they will turn off the phone service.
