Exclamation Standby and keylock same thing? terrible battery life....

Please Login to Remove!

Just traded my 700p in for the 8830 and so far I love it - so much better. The only problem is the battery life. I have only been getting about 20 hours before the battery is dead. I dont use the holster at all so I've been using the keylock so i dont bump keys in my pocket. I just was reading all the FAQ's and came by STANDBY mode.... are they both basically the same? What else could be effecting my battery time so much? I leave my bluetooth turned on all the time...? My talk time is about 2 hrs day and light emails/sms. Maybe a defective battery?

Standby appears to be very similar to "in holster" and works quite well for pocket storage. I can put it in standby in my pocket and all will work but the keys don't do anything. The phone will ring, I can mute the call with volume keys, etc. And, when I'm using a holster and put it in standby, when I pull it out of the holster it comes out of standby. I use standby and my battery life is quite good.

Give it a week until the battery is broken in.. I had the treo 700p and 755p and neither could last me more than half a day, my 8830 can handle all day with at least 30% battery left at night. But I remember the first week the battery seemed to drain fast, just let it run out and charge fully a few times.

I noticed that if I keep Google Maps running in the background the GPS feature keeps track of my location which consumes alot of energy. Be sure to use the Quit/Close option to ensure it is not running in the background.

I make a habit of checking all apps that are running by using the "Switch Application" feature from the home page. You will always have 5 running (browser, messages, phone, bb messenger and home page). If anything else is running I select it and click on Close or Quit.

Wirelessly posted (8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Network or running programs as mentioned. Both will affect battery life.

Maybe I'm an isolated case, but when I put mine in standby, incoming calls go straight to voicemail. Countless times (I wasn't counting) I tried to get a call to go through in standby. No dice.

I cannot afford the possibility of missing any incoming messages or calls as a result of using standby to save power.

I just tried it again. No dice.

Are you sure it's a good idea to have your phone so close to your crotch? I'm afraid that might put ME in standby mode....
