I just picked up the 8830 yesterday after being a Q user for about 8 months. I went through 5 of these in this time and decided that they just flat out stink.

First question:
Is there a way for me to set up my work e-mail so I am not receiving e-mails while I am at work? I would prefer to have my account turned off from 8:00-5:30. I do work from home in the evenings and just want the e-mails turned off while I'm in the office. Is there a way to do this?

Second question:
I did the software update last night but did a hard reset first (removed battery).
Now my contacts are gone (obviously) however they should still be on the verizon active sync website from my q. Is there an easy way to transfer these to my phone so I don't have to enter them individually?

That is all for now but I'm sure that I'll be back with more the more that I play around with it. I appreciate your help.

1- No, not a simple easy way. You can turn off data during the day, and if the emails are not still sitting on your email server, they will not come to you again on your BB. Otherwise, you will see them when you turn on data.
Options > Mobile Networks > Turn data off

2- Doing a hard reset (removing the battery) does not remove contacts.
Something else must have happened, because other than "wiping" your BB, contacts will not be removed. If you can download the Verizon contacts to your PC, and then to Outlook or, an Excel file maybe, and then sync to your BB. You should not have to reenter those numerous contacts.

If you are on BES through your work, you can setup your desktop manager to disable email redirection while your blackberry is attached to your computer, and have desktop manager open. You wouldn't have to remember to turn off your data everyday, but you will have to keep desktop manager open and minimized.

Geez when I first opened this thread and read your post I thought I had posted it recently and just forgotten that I did... I am in the exact same situation -- been using a VZW Moto Q for about 8 months and finally after problem after problem, multiple hard resets, and 2 replacements, I too decided to switch to the BB 8830.

We should keep in touch... a "support group" of sorts haha

Is your work email on a BES? If so, you can turn off email under Messages >Options >Email Settings. Change "Send Email to Handheld" to "No."

Haha, we don't need a support group... We need a club, I also had the moto q for verizon... Hated it. Then I was finally able to upgrade to a 8830, but wanted the gps to I ended up getting the 8800, and with the cheaper data plan that move ended up saving me money... Sorry to get off topic

hahaha i had a q to and it was a peace of crap. so i broke that 3 times and then moved onto the pocket pc and broke that 3 times so NOW im on to the blackberry! I havnt really liked wat ive seen on blackberrys but i thought why not if verizons paying for it. Then give it a try but ya its in the mail on they way here.

1. I was wondering if i still need 2 download that update or if it is already done??

2. Im and aim addict. But i dont wanna buy one. Is there anyway i get a free one or off somone else?

3. Any cool aps or game that are a must dowload? and Where is the best place to buy or get these things?

4. Anything i should know that will help me with just getting used 2 blackberry stuff.
