Default 8830 Video Format - Convert? Super/mplayer

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, so I have some experience in converting media using Super and a little using MPlayer. But I have been trying to get some videos to play on my new 8830 and I cannot seem to get it right.

What settings should I be using in Super or what command link arguments using mencoder.exe? I prefer MPlayer since it usually does a better job in quality.

Thanks
Jesse

I have tried almost every method I can find online for the 8800 series and none of the methods seem to work.

Any Help?

Default Supported audio/video formats for 8800/8830

Found the following link to RIM's support page from a review of the 8830 on MobileTechReview.

BlackBerry Search Results

It details the supported audio and video formats for the 880/8830. Not surprisingly, you're having lots of problems because the media player on the 8830 is extremely picky about what it plays. I've been playing with MythTV transcoding using mencoder and ffmpeg and have had mixed success. When I get a formula that works, I'll post to this thread.

I as well have had no success with Super. You will find some who have had some luck and hopefully they will respond to this thread.

Default Super settings that work

I recently purchased the 8830 from Verizon, and after many tries, I am using the latest build of SUPER (2008.build 30) to convert video to play on my BB. Here are the settings that are working for me:

Output container: 3GP (Sony/Ericsson)
Video codec: XviD
Audio codec: AAC

Encoder: ffmpeg
Video scale: 320x240
Aspect: 4:3
Frame rate: 23.976
Bit rate: 144
Options checked: Hi quality, 3GP v5

Sampling: 22050
Channels: 2
Bit rate: 48

I converted some MPEG and DivX files and they work great. The file size generally comes out to about 1.5Mb per minute.

FYI, my BB is on software rev level 4.2.2.176. I tried other container/codec options that should work according to the BB tech specs but they didn't work.

Best of luck!

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

Slighly unrelated.
Torrent formated video seemes to work fine with the device which I had resorted to more recently.
I will definitely try the latest settings. Thank you

Thanks for the info! I've been using Super for a while and just haven't gotten around to figuring out the right settings... the BB is soooo slow and I can get smoother video on an SE phone.

A little off-topic, but does anyone know the issue with AAC files converted using Nero's public codec? the stock BB player will play about 10-15 seconds of a file, then just error out and skip to another song.
