Here is the deal. I have an envelope with a 1 next to it, but no new emails, messages, calls, etc. I went through and opened every email ans sms on this thing, and its still there!

Any ideas?

It may come down to you having to wipe the device to remedy the situation. You can do a backup and then wipe.

Check saved messages and see if you have unread message there. Also, in the folder that shows the unread message counter, put cursor on date at top of folder and bring up menu and select mark prior read. If that doesn't work, then jeremy's solution may be called for if the counter is driving you crazy.

I also had the same problem. I Went through all message/sms item dates and ran the menu item 'Mark Prior Opened' as aiharkness said to do. Even though no messages were unread, the message notification stopped after I hit the offending date.

Thanks aiharkness.

Do a reset by pulling battery out and then putting it back in.

Default same problem but with missed calls

I constantly show a 3 missed calls icon up top, but have cleared everything and still see it. Will it need a wipe as well?

And still being a newby to this, I've seen where it asks if I want to wipe the memory, but will this completely wipe the phone including it systems information that make it work with ATT or will it just wipe the messages and information that I have placed on it?

In other words, when I hit wipe, will the phone still work and will I only have to reload the contacts on it?
