Default Help with E-Mail!

Please Login to Remove!

I got the 8830 today and I set up all of my e-mail accounts through the phone. I am not using a BES. I would like to know why I am not recieving e-mails. Do I have to go to Sprint's or Blackberry's website to do something inorder to get the e-mails. Also, how do you select ringers and alerts? Thanks!

It would be instant if you set up a BlackBerry E-mail address (username@carrier.blackberry.net) and had your mail forwarded to that address. Right now the only personal e-mail providers (that I know of) that have near-instantaneous delivery of e-mail are GMail and Yahoo! Any other personal e-mail account will be polled. More information here: Methods of Receiving Email on BlackBerry - BlackBerryFAQ

I see no difference with the forwarding rule. Does your comment apply to corporate exchange accounts that are polled by BIS accounts?

I'm just trying how to push my e-mail to my phone without waiting the 15 minutes. I understand that I have to set it up to have the e-mails forwarded to do that, but where do I actually go to do that?

your email > forwarded to gmail account > setup gmail on your BIS site.

Now forward your normal email, at that server, to your Gmail account.

You will also want to setup this filter:
HOW-TO: Prevent G-mail "Sent Items" from being sent to your handheld.

It'll work, may take some finageling. I know it can be frustrating.

Be patient and remain calm. These people are trying to tell you what to do. BIS only polls email accounts every 15 minutes so you HAVE to use either your Blackberry email account, which is instant OR another email account that will instantly forward to your Blackberry email address.

There is a 3rd solution that I use that even gets my AOL mail forwarded to me withing 60 seconds! Go to VersaForward Email Forwarding Service - AOL, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo to your Cell Phone, Blackberry, or Email

I have used them for several years and all of my mail is instant on BIS.

Default a few questions please

Just getting my feet wet with my new 8830... a few questions for the mods and vets if you don't mind...

1) How can I change my e-mail signature?

2) How can I stop getting copies of e-mails that I send to someone else?

3) When I click on Delete for an e-mail, it asks me "Mailbox and Handheld" or "Handheld" -- is there anyway to change that to a default "Handheld"?

And, unrelated to e-mail, how can I see the full info I have for a contact -- i.e. address, b-day, notes, etc., just like on my PC's Outlook?

Thanks a million!

1- change the email sig at your VZW BIS website, where you setup your email t the BB
Where can I log into my BIS account? - BlackBerryFAQ
2- are you using Gmail? HOW-TO: Prevent G-mail "Sent Items" from being sent to your handheld.
3- Messages > Options > Email Reconciliation > Delete On = set your default
4- Address Book > find your contact > View Contact

1) Awesome. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

3) Awesome. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

4) The b-days and notes are still not showing -- for example, whenever I get girls numbers, I make notes on them so I can remember them -- e.g. 22 college student, 29 yo w/ 2 kids, etc. I am not able to see these notes???

(I also use the feature for networking/business contacts)

Thanks for your super fast replies

in your Desktop Manager, make sure you set your sync and map the fields to map correctly on the notes frield or user field. I can't remember the exact drill down to the field mapping between between the BB and Outlook.

Ok, here's the mapping drilldown...

* In Desktop Manager, select "Syncronize"
* At the next window select the folder on top labeled "Configuration"
* From there, highlight address book and click on "Choose"
* Highlight the application you sync with and select "OK"
* From the return screen, on the bottom right hand, select "Configure"
* At the drop-down menu, select "Advanced Settings"
* From here select "Field Mapping" (lower right of the window.)
* Select OK at the next window and the field mapping utility opens.

From here, choose the fields in the "Contacts" column you wish to pull over, and map them to a field in the "Handheld" column. You may have to drag the field up or down in the "Contacts" column to line it up, but from here it is fairly intuitive. Just remember, its not enough to line the fields up, you have to double-click so that the two-headed arrow shows up between the fields. This step completes the mapping process.

Hope this helps...

Default awesome

JSanders and Fatbike -- many thanks, this is probably the most helpful internet discussion forum I've ever been on.

So y'all's instructions worked great... for the Notes part -- I am able to see them now. However when I tried to map the "Birthday" and "Anniversary" fields to User Defined 2, it wouldn't let me and gave me the following error message:

Handheld field "User Defined 2" cannot be mapped to Microsoft Outlook field "Birthday"

???
