Default How to tell if I have IT policy?

Please Login to Remove!

I've already searched and do not find anything about IT policy in any setting on my bb 8700c but it sure acts like it is in effect. I can pair but not connect a bt GPS or keyboard...also can not change some settings in the security or firewall. Don't see a "lock" but I can't change to allow or only offers deny and the firewall offers only enabled. Any other suggestions? By the way, I bought it used, the previous owner's emails were coming until I "wiped" and deleted her stuff. Didn't know about the IT policy stuff at that time so it may have been listed but I wiped them out....HELP! PLEASE! The ATT guys and the accessory support people are fools. They each blame each other...ATT said it's the accessory...the accessory guys say it's the bb and bb won't help unless I pay them... If I can determine that I have an IT policy, I shall do the bin thing...

kamik333,
Your device has been on a BES. Unfortunatly, there is no way to open the firewall for keystroke injection unless the device is still connected to the same BES and the BES admin sends the proper application permission to the device.

This is a major problem with bluetooth keyboards. I suggest talking to the manufacturer of the keyboard and see if there is anything they can do. However, having dealt with this issue myself, there's likely nothing you can do. It may never work. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

John Clark,

does that mean even if I do the BIN file thing I could not eliminate the IT policy?

That's correct. The policy.bin will not open up the keystroke injection. It's unfortunate, but true.

At this time there is no way to open that.

John Clark...

what if I get on some BES? Could I remove or change the settings that way or is it only possible from the original BES? And lastly, I may have hope with the GPS connection? And thanks for your knowledge!

It's possible if you can get on a BES they can push a new policy with the proper application permissions. That's not a simple thing either. As for the GPS, yes, that will likely work.

Thank you for your help. Will look into finding a BES and giving that approach a shot...
