Angry Emergency Calls Only?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm having the most terrible luck! I've finally decided to become a PDA person (long overdue, I might add) and first I get ripped off on EBAY, and going through a PAYPAL dispute with the seller, and now... My kind kind boss gave me her old 8700. Dream come true! Everything works, the numbers load onto the Blackberry from my SIM, I get full bars, but the phone says it can only make emergency calls!

When I went to ATT for help of course they say it's water damage because the little sticker sensor is red, my b, but we all know that everyone's phone comes in to contact with moisture and they still work. But the phone people can use that as their way out of responsibility for helping. So, is there anything I can do? Like is there anywhere I can send the phone to get it fixed? or something I can reset or replace manually? I don't understand how everything can work, it can even read the sim card, but just not make calls (though it does say for emergency calls only)??? any help would be so so wonderful. thank you.

Does it have an IT Policy on it? Go to Options >Security Options >General Settings and scroll to near the bottom and see if there is any reference to "IT Policy."

It could just be that the old IT policy prevents phone use. If so, follow the instructions in the following link:

Also, was her phone carrier the same phone carrier you use?

Make sure that the device isn't locked to another carrier for which you currently do you use & make sure the SIM Card is active, inserted properly and the account is not blocked.

Oh it was definitely the same carrier. Though it would be like me to make that bonehead mistake As soon as I get home I will check out the IT carrier, I'd never even heard of such a thing, what it is?

Thank you for your reply, it's so nice to have some fresh ideas.

IT policy. Did you follow my instructions above to see if the device has an IT policy on it? It will say right in the Security settings as I described above.

You were right the ITsaid - corporate-NO PHONE. good one. sadly I'm still in the dark as how am I supposed to download anythig to the phone when the wireless is not enabled? (since I cannot use the blackberry, I've had to stick to my normal phone and normal plan) I'm sorry if these questions are dull, should I buy a specific cord or something that would make it work, and would I need a windows computer. Again, I'm still completely new with PDA, and since it didn't work I haven't taught myself how to use it. Also... this one, since it was a gift didn't come with any accessories. Wow thank you so much.

Do you think this is what happened with the Palm treo I bought on ebay, and got screwed on because it "didn't work"?

bodebroad,
Follow the instructions in the link below. They will guide you through removing the IT policy from your phone. You need a PC. You will need to download and install to the PC, the Desktop manager software. There is a link included in the isntructions below. Follow the instructions exactly and you will be able to apply a blank IT policy to the phone that will allow you to make calls, etc.

Remove IT Policy

Hey John.

I'm afraid I'm a little too inexperienced with PCs and Blackberrys that I don't think I can do this project on my own. I tried, but it all seemed forgein to me. Sadly my best electronic savy friend recently left for France this month. I hope you dont think this is cop-out after all the wonderful information you've provided me with, but do you know any cell-repair services I could go to or send my blackberry to who could fix it (clear the IT) for me?

p.s Lost is amazing, I just started the 2nd season on DVD, I'm hooked!!
